Great effort to compile the data and generate the pie charts. This is a better idea for the RE 650 twins
But the sales are still less than 1000 per month! Not sure if RE is still facing supply issues. OR the only cosmetic updates is keeping buyers away?

Re: July 2021: Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for sharing this thread, a4anurag. It looks as though the dispatch numbers have rebounded well after the Wave 2 lockdowns. Overall a 20% growth MoM for the sector was not unexpected, but Honda being the big winner is a bit of a surprise.

I do have one concern regarding one of the charts. Taking the 650 twins out of the Motorcycles above 500 cc segment makes sense, in that the 650 twins completely skew the charts and make the competition seem insignificant. But putting it in the 350+ segment is not the right move, because now we are playing with the data. The purpose of charts and tables, is to make sense of the data. Resetting the data beats the purpose of this analysis.

So my suggestion is that instead, you have two charts for the Motorcycles above 500 cc segment. In one, you keep the 650 twins and provide the old view. And in a second alternate view (which is actually a slice of the whole Motorcycles above 500 cc segment chart), you can provide the current chart without the 650 twins. That way, the sanctity of the data remains. Having the 650 twins in the 350+ chart should be removed.

Bajaj
Overall, they performed virtually identical to last month.
The big difference is that where the Platina gained numbers, the Pulsar 125 lost and it dropped to it lowest non Wave 2 (i.e. month of May) figures for the last year.
730 units of the Chetak is pretty good for the electric segment.
The Husky twins (together) and the Dominar offerings (individually) cant outsell the Avenger 220 which was launched in 2010.
The Husky twins and the Dominar offerings combined dont even account for 29% of the sales of the Pulsar 220, which was launched in 2009. The RoI on those old platforms is phenomenal for Bajaj. They must be wondering what they can do to replicate it with their newer offerings.

Honda
Phenomenal show by the Activa (+ 68,682) and the CB Shine (+ 44,259).
The 650 twins are doing well, considering the faired version is sold out for 2021.
21 new dispatches for the Africa Twin and Goldwing is very impressive.

Kawasaki
The Ninja 300 numbers are surprising. There was a discussion on the Ninja 300 thread regarding some production issues with the BS6 model.
The Z900 selling as much as the Z650, Ninja 650, Versys 650 and Vulcan S combined, speaks a lot for our market.

Royal Enfield
I hear that there is a long waiting period for most (all?) Royal Enfield motorcycles. Covid seems to have hit their production lines and workforce harder than most.
Definitely seems to be a case of the company not being able to meet demand, rather than flagging bookings.

Triumph
Shockingly low dispatches for the Trident, which is supposed to be their bread and butter model. Its too early to say the bloom is off the rose but this is the most interesting development this month in the entire thread.
The Speed Triple is off to such a disappointing start. With such a large captive base of Street Triple owners, the Speed Triple would have been a slam dunk success if Triumph had priced it right in India.

Re: July 2021: Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for compiling and sharing such graphic view of data. 2-wheeler sector has been laggard post COVID to recover, owing to several key factors like work from home, schools and other educational institutions conducting virtual sessions etc. Also one peculiar thing to notice is that splendour has good lead over activa, suggesting rural demand has been better in comparison to urban areas. Shine performing better than HF is suggesting some geographic or economic diversity of customers coming back to showrooms post COVID induced lockdowns and other restrictions.
Things must start to look up now as some festivities begin hereon. But yeah, we must not forget the precautions to keep pandemic under check. Also, how soon we will see electrics here or is it still too early to expect it.

Re: July 2021: Motorcycle & Scooter Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks for the data compilation.
Nice to see 125cc gang (shine, access etc) doing much better than the 100cc models across all manufacturers.
Wonder why Hero Motor Corp scooters are not doing well?
I think the Honda Activa segment should be 100 – 125 cc. Also, can we get breakup, so as to understand if 125cc models are doing better or otherwise.
