Five KTM 490 series bikes lined-up for 2022

A recent presentation by Pierer Mobility has shed light on KTM's product plans for the future. The highlight, as far as the Indian market is concerned, is the new 490 range of bikes.

The KTM 490 range of bikes is set to debut in 2022 and will include a total of five models. These will include the Duke 490 street bike, RC 490 sports bike and 490 Adventure. The list also includes an enduro bike as well as a supermoto bike that are unlikely to be offered in India.

KTM's 390 range uses a single-cylinder engine. However, the new 490 series is expected to be powered by a parallel-twin engine.

Bajaj Auto is building a new factory near Pune that will be dedicated for its premium range of motorcycles which include KTM, Husqvarna and Triumph. It is likely to be operational by 2023.

If there were any recent updates from Pierer Mobility on the 490 series, I missed it completely. All I recall is the presentation from December 2020 and we have a thread (KTM & Bajaj developing 490 Duke, 490 Adventure) for it already. I guess that both the threads can be merged if there is no new news.

The slide in this thread has come up in one of our multiple KTM related threads as well earlier.

A sub-5 lakhs 490 Twin ADV from KTM will be my next upgrade from my 4-year-old Dominar 400.

The bonus I would expect will be a Bajaj version of the Adv on a slighter detuned engine for higher refinement (Like what we saw in D400 vs Duke 390) will be in my wishlist too

You have had a Dominar for 4 years. Could you tell me if it suffers the same quality issues as other Bajaj bikes or is it better?

I guess we will be going a little off-topic here, but in short Dominar served me very well with lots of ***asterisks. The service centres are very pathetic and after the free 10k km services, I do my own service and the bike is all well.

And keeping this thread as subject, I would say Bajaj and KTM remains almost the same in all quality levels, except the ASS of Bajaj is so poor than KTM which in turns creates more un-resolved/unwanted issues with Bajaj motorcycles.

The 490 series is suspended due to price concerns.

Re: Five KTM 490 series bikes lined-up for 2022

Well this is sad news. I think a lot of enthusiasts were looking at a nice performing twin cylinder engine that was a step up from the 650cc RE bikes but at a more palatable price compared to the no longer VFM Ninja 650.

I am a bit surprised KTM isn't considering this for their global audience given there is a significant gap between the A2 level 390 series and the 100 bhp+ 890 series. A 60 bhp 490 twin could have maybe competed with the 650 series at a slight premium.

I watched this video first thing in the morning. I was bummed for sure. It's a little disappointing to see how ktm and other brands a like view the Indian market. EU, U.S get all the goodies and the whole line up of whatever they make and here we have just the beginners and novice bikes with some features missing (like the adjustable suspension) even the whole official accessories is missing in our market. It Just makes me sad

Husqvarna has barely seen action for a while. Are there any plans to launch the 401s in India this year or in 2023?

Meanwhile, they’re not even delivering the 390 twins within a month….KTM, get yourself up to speed quickly…
