Honda CB200X, now launched at Rs. 1.44 lakh

Honda has registered a new name "NX200" for its next bike in India. It could be a small ADV rivalling the Hero Xpulse 200.We wouldn’t be surprised to see the same 184cc single-cylinder engine that powers the Hornet 2.0 to be fitted in the Honda NX200. This motor is capable of delivering 17.26PS of max power at 8,500rpm and 16.1Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm.

Is this bike expected with a 21 front wheel?

The trailer briefly shows what appears to be a rear cast wheel - so I'm going to guess that this is a close cousin of the CB190X available in China and not an Xpulse-type of motorcycle

It looks like the smaller version of the overpriced CB500x. In fact Honda does not launch a single product that the Indian motorcycle enthusiasts expect. They might be busy getting ready for Activa 6G.

re: Honda CB200X, now launched at Rs. 1.44 lakh

I wonder why Honda never talks about their upcoming products until they are very close to their official launch. Honda test mules are not found much on roads either. Most other manufacturers, say it out loud if they are planning to bring a new motorcycle and creates a sort of hype. Meanwhile, Honda comes out of nowhere and suddenly announces the launch of a new motorcycle. Not meaning to say it is a bad thing, but just saying!

Honda is a promising brand among motorcycles in rest of the world but they don't take off in India primarily due to their pricing. Take the Honda CB500X for example, it is a good adventure bike and could have been a hit in India, but the bike costs between 7.5-8 L on-road which makes the Benelli TRK 502 a much better and sensible option. The pricing is overboard for 471cc motorcycle.

Either ways, let's see if this one is a hit or a miss. The adventure segment is booming very fast and this can be a game changer for Honda, if the vehicle is capable and priced under 2 L on-road. With the Hornet 2.0 Engine, we know that this is not an all new product, so the costs and price should be in check. Can't wait for the launch!

re: Honda CB200X, now launched at Rs. 1.44 lakh

I don't think Honda will be courageous enough to launch a full blown off road ready light weight bike even though they may be targeting XPulse 200.
I believe XPulse 200 will not be fussed by NX200 however I am curious to see how this fares again Hornet 2.0 and XPulse 200T (200T is also a decent seller for Hero and other than some retro resemblance NX200 and 200T appear to be providing same attributes.)

Hero's Xpulse is fantastic off the road, but it is such a DRAG on the highways.

If this Honda can ride better on the highway and even manage 70% of what the Xpulse does off-the-tarmac, I think it could turn heads.
If priced roughly INR 10-15k over the Hornet, I guess it should be a decent buy given the road conditions nationwide. Plus you get to explore (relatively) more.

Benelli trek 502 weighs a whooping 135kg whereas the cb500x is just 189kg. Also the brand value of a Benelli is nothing when compared to Honda in India. IMHO the reliability of a Honda engine and the no nonsense simplicity of the cb500x is a better choice than the Benelli trek 502 any day. The problem is when there are only a few units sold, the parts availability becomes an issue after 3-4 years even if it's a Honda.

re: Honda CB200X, now launched at Rs. 1.44 lakh

My guess is it will be an adventure tourer based on the Hornet and priced at a 20 or 25K premium over the Hornet. It will surely give a fight to the Hero X Pulse and will give an alternative that is niggle free and relatively more reliable.

There is a huge gap between the KTM ADV 390 and Honda CB500X that needs to be filled with a sensibly priced ADV tourer that has an engine capacity between 250 & 350 CC and is priced between 3 to 3.5 lacs.

Honda has an Enduro bike "300 CRF Rally" that can be developed as a ADV tourer and priced between 3 or 3.5 lacs. It will have enough power while being affordable to a large chunk of potential customers.

Fact of the matter is India does not have a market (in numbers that will make it feasible for a OEM to bring in one) for a pure off Road Enduro bike however there is a lot of promise in the Adv tourer segment that needs to be tapped. I had a lot of hope from the CB500X however (well we know the story).

Let's wait for August 17th (who knows Honda might just surprise us). If it is indeed a bike based on the Hornet then I will waiting for the KTM ADV 490 that is slated to be built by Bajaj at their new Chakan plant in 2023.

Having the indicator on knuckle guard means dropping the bike in trails might lead to higher fixing expenses.

I think this would be more of a road biased tourer. Xpulse 200 is slightly more powerful than the Hornet 2.0 but substantially heavier(15kgs more) as well. I seriously wish honda bumps up the power and torque on this one(I know asking for too much). If it can sustain 100-110 cruising speeds & have comfortable seating with long travel suspension, would be a great entry level touring option.

Knowing honda pricing would be 15-20k over hornet 2.0 at least taking it to ~1.5L exshowroom.

I think you meant the TRK 502 weighs 235kg.
Yes, it weighs more but the price difference is a little above 2 lakhs in some cities, if not all. I don't think a normal buyer would feel justified for the extra 2 lakhs unless he/she is a die hard Honda fan.

When the price is obnoxiously high, fewer units get sold. When fewer units get sold, there will be unavailability of parts sooner or later.

Well, in the 250-350cc segment, there is KTM ADV 250/390, RE Himalayan & BMW GS 310 whereas in the below 250cc segment, there's only Xpulse. I think is a lot more potentiality in all ranges.

Only if they do that.
Bringing into India as a CKD/CBU will only rise the price. Unless they can manufacture it in India, I don't think will be able to price it in the said bracket.

It surely is based on the Hornet but the looks make me feel optimistic about it for some reason. There seems to be a lot of changes on the body. Hope there is enough on the mechanicals bit as well to be categorised as an ADV.

That's too much of an ask
If they are able to provide that, I'll straightaway book one.

The Hornet comes with a 5-speed gearbox. If it needs to sustain a comfortable cruising speed of 100+ kmph, I feel it would need a 6-speed gearbox, which is highly unlikely.

re: Honda CB200X, now launched at Rs. 1.44 lakh

Why wouldn't they consider plonking their 300 cc (from the CB300) or the 350 (from their H'ness and RS) into this? Would have been a roaring success. I have a feeling it will feel underpowered or just about ok-ok, not something people will be super happy with. And as rightly pointed out, a sixth gear would be amazing.
I think this is more of a tourer, less of an off-roader. I love the way it looks.

Side note: I wish they launched the road-going version of the CX-01 which they showcased years back at the Auto-Expo (back when I was in Honda).

They're gonna do what they did with the CB190R from China. Headlight, engine (and maybe the entire underpinnings) from the Hornet 2.0, upright ergos, tourer style fairing.

CB190X, for your viewing pleasure.

Honda releases new teaser of NX200, gives a glimpse of the tall-set handlebar as well as the step-up style seat and a two-piece pillion grab rail.
