Any word if there will be any additional subscription based cost for the app maybe?

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

I expected the S1 to be around Rs 90k, but yes the specs are equivalent to Rs 1.4L Ather 450X. After subsidies, here in Rajasthan it is Rs 90k ex showroom. Deliveries will start in October, sales from 8th September. Loved the features the scooter comes with. It's 100% keyless and the digital MID has plant backgrounds, cruise control and speaker+voice command. Looks like a good product, bit more expensive than expected.

Would've liked more information on registration, charging network as the sales will be online.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Headline figure difference between S1 and S1 Pro is that the S1's manufacturing range is 121 km with a top speed of 90kmph while the S1 Pro's is 181 km.

Very impressive! The scooter comes with features that will be appreciated by the youth. Although one wonders what would be the longevity of stuff like inbuilt speakers when exposed to our elements.

At the end of the day, it is stuff like this which interests everyone. A clean UX, fuss-free and universal connectivity and robustness & responsives (of the software). It was interesting to see the computer hardware underneath and that most of the development of the software was done in India.

Essentially the bike was more of a smartphone with wheels, but that is exactly what the auto-industry is also slowly realising, after seeing how Tesla has perfected the art of creating a user experience that few can ignore or escape from.

The mechanicals underneath are starting to get commoditised so its isn't much of a leap there and the risk factor is less.

In my opinion, particularly Suzuki India, Yamaha India and TVS should be worried first looking at their scooter portfolios.

S1 will do the thing for OLA , i suppose . 120 kms range with 90 kmph speed is just more then sufficient for daily city use and considering a premium of 10K over the Activa , it's worth every rupee spent .

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Imo they should have either omitted the bling hi-tech features from the S1 and priced it a bit less. Or they can launch a S1 Lite in the future with just the touchscreen without the speakers, sound, cruise control, etc.
Still it is priced competitively and the extra price will be covered in fuel costs after riding it for a few months.
Friends over in Gujarat are probably going to lap this scooter up with all the subsidies.
This is going to sell well.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Good pricing but unfortunately I will be cancelling my order due to scooter not having removable battery. I knew this was coming after reading through reports last few weeks but was hoping against hope that there would be one variant with removable batteries as well.

I am wondering if good pricing alone can cause a disruption in electric scooter industry. Sure they will sell much more than what Ather sells but can they bring in huge volumes? A huge section of Indians live in rented houses or apartments where this kind of installation is next to impossible.

In any case, wish Ola all the very best. Hope they succeed!

PS: Too early to ask and its just 499, but any idea what is the procedure for refund.

re: Ola's made-in-India Electric scooter, now launched at Rs. 99,999

Ola has improved the S1 and S1 Pro a lot over the Etergo. It has a much bigger battery (3.9 kWh) compared to 3.465 kWh on Etergo. The motor is more powerful at 8.5 KW peak power vs 6KW on Etergo. Even the home charger is 750W vs 600W on Etergo. Most of the smart features are also added by Ola and not present in Etergo.

This is good for Ola's future models as they are planning to multiple models including motorcycles.

Pricing is very good. People, who are comparing it to Activa, should compare it to Activa 125 or Suzuki Access. It's going to hurt all the Activas, Juipters, Ntorqs, and Access, etc.. EV models like 450x, Chetak, TVS iQube will be moved to oblivion if they don't reduce the prices.

+1. I was exactly in same thought. I was hoping that Ola will surprise with removal battery, but it didn't. Very disappointed.
So I am thinking and most likely will be cancelling the booking and check what Mark Simple one offers. Mark Simple one offers removable battery, but am surprised, they don't even have a proper website

Agreed, Ola's "fancy" features will attract youth/college goers and many. But i felt many of the features may not be used in a daily routine. For a city like Bangalore, cruise control is never going to be used or least used feature.
There are few good plus points (big storage space etc) as well in the scooter which is trend setting and first in market. I am sure many others will follow now.

But from overall intention and modernizing the 2W segment in EV space, Ola is leading the way. That's very appreciable.

Many of the newer features are not that costly to implement in an EV. The majority of the increased cost is still due to high costs of power train. Manufacturers are just trying to add value with these features which do not cost that much.
