Assured buyback of Rs. 85,000 on Ather 450X

In addition to the buyback program, Ather will also be expanding its lease program for the Ather 450X to all cities. At present, leasing options are only available in Bangalore and Chennai.

Ather offers customers in Bangalore to exchange their old petrol-powered 2-wheeler for an electric scooter. The ex-showroom prices of the Ather 450 Plus has been reduced to Rs. 1,39,990.

Ather has revised its subscription plans as well. The plans now offer 4 independent packs starting at Rs. 125 per month. These include Ather Connect Lite, Ather Connect Pro, Ather Service Lite and Ather Service Pro. Further, access to Ather Grid charging stations will be free until March 2021.

Re: Assured buyback of Rs. 85,000 on Ather 450X

Terms and conditions for the buyback plan:
  • Total mileage after 3 years should be under 30,000 km.
  • Don’t miss any periodic service due for your vehicle.
  • Use it only for private, non-commercial commutes, and be the first owner.
  • Keep your scooter in great condition, avoid damage.

If you meet all these criteria, then you will get half of the purchase price.

Looks like signs of desperation to me..Apart from a niche crowd with good disposable income who want to try something new and revolutionary the aam aadmi is far from buying electric at this point in time at 2X prices. Electric IMHO is a distant future in India.

Why are they not expanding across the country is a mystery for me? With Hero owing over 30% in this company, they could have easily targeted major cities. They could have sold in bulk to people like Amazon who are always looking for something green. Maybe they need to do better marketing unless I am missing something completely.

Re: Assured buyback of Rs. 85,000 on Ather 450X

A mixed bag, this announcement. Purely from a company image point of view, if you peg the depreciation value of your own product at a good value , customers generally feel good about the product. Its like cash back or free return. Its a good marketing move.

The fine print is where the problem is. On an average if a person uses it for 150-200 kms / week then the 30K limit would expire in about 3years. In that case it would hardly appeal to any potential buyer. So i pay around 2L to take a bike and after 3years i get back 85K provided i use it cautiously not driving more than 200kms / week?. Its not much of an ice breaker for anyone willing to take the EV plunge.

The move also forestalls people to ask the question " What would the company do with the returned bike?" by not providing any direct answers. If they are refurbishing it and reselling as a kind of True value product , then it make no sense to sell it back to company who would then double up as a reseller / dealer. All in all, there are too many grey areas for comfort.

Re: Assured buyback of Rs. 85,000 on Ather 450X

Hi folks:

Has anyone taken the Ather on lease here and can share any details? I have been looking for information on lease plans on their website and trying their customer care but have been unlucky so far. Which brings me to another question on their Service? If it is thru their customer care number, it does not sound very encouraging.
