Re: Hero MotoCorp to import Harley Davidson bikes in India

Received the following communication. SO SLOW ! It's been so many days since the partnership was confirmed.

Talk about sleeping behind the wheel. Such things indicate just how much Harley India matters to the guys in charge:

Quote:
Please find below the official statement on behalf of Harley-Davidson India. Request you to attribute the quote to Mr. Sajeev Rajasekharan, Managing Director – Asia Emerging Markets & India, Harley-Davidson.

“As we change our business model in India, we are pleased to be continuing our journey in the country together with Hero MotoCorp. We are working closely with Hero to ensure a smooth transition for our riders. We are providing our riders with updates as available and have assured them that Harley-Davidson motorcycle, parts and accessories and general merchandise sales, as well as after-sale services, warranty and H.O.G. activities will continue from January 2021 onwards.”

Re: Hero MotoCorp to import Harley Davidson bikes in India

Harley-Davidson owners group on Sunday conducted protest rallies called Dark Rides in as many as 14 cities in the country against the decision of the American motorcycle company to pull out of India, and in a bid to show support to Harley-Davidson dealers who say they have been left in the lurch by the decision of an India exit.

Sunday's protest rides were held in Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Lucknow, Delhi, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Indore, Bhopal, Raipur, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai and Guwahati. Many of the participating in these rides outlined that while getting spare parts for their bikes had become difficult over the last several months, it is the 'unfair treatment' to dealers that also concerns them.

Hero MotoCorp Signs 10 Harley Davidson India Dealers Into Their Network

DECEMBER 3, 2020
Source - https://www.rushlane.com/hero-motoco...-12381136.html

Quote:
Since Harley’s departure in September 2020, dealers have discussed compensation packages on offer. Existing contracts expire at the end of 2020. Harley-Davidson Dealers Association is steadfast in its demand for fair-compensation for all dealers, representing all 33 Harley-Davidson outlets in India.
Quote:
Considering the time-bound, take it or leave it situation on offer, 10 of 33 dealer partners have accepted terms to be a part of Hero MotoCorp’s dealership network. Meanwhile, dealers continue to wait to hear from Harley-Davidson on matters pertaining to adequate compensation. The on offer new dealership contracts being held off for 23 of the 33 dealers is indicative of how the situation isn’t beneficial to anyone.

Thanks Blackwasp. Do you know what's gonna happen to their plant? Are they going to continue manufacturing or will it be an import only model?

The Street Range already is missing from its website. I think that the plant has been closed.

Yes both the Street twins are discontinued unfortunately. So now the cheapest Harley is the 883 Iron which has substantially increased the entry point to the Harley family.

And yet, Fatboy at almost double the price of Iron 883 still sells better than 883. High end bike arithmetic is strange in India. I for one believe, despite absence of Street range - which felt diluted anyway, HD with Hero backing should do okay now on. Hopefully.

IMHO - Harley is not only exiting the country - but risking heavy dilution of the brand at the hands of Hero Motocorp. They have shown zero competence in all these tasks - selling high end motorcycles or developing them.
there is a small chance that Hero can prove me wrong, but that would be a welcome scenario indeed!
Early times and I don't have numbers but Hero seem to be doing all right things.

They have launched the Pan-America so fast, perhaps, to convey a message that they are going to take care of the brand

Harley Davidson is back now piggyback riding HeroMotoCorp

Harley Davidson bikes are back, this time, piggyback riding HeroMotoCorp. The latter will have distribution rights here for the US manufacturer. The first batch of 100 bikes earmarked for this year have been already booked since April 2021. The next lot bookings are on the anvil.

The retail facilities of HeroMotoCorp are to be used for sales and service. They have 12 listed HD dealers for the purpose. Around 13 models have been picked for sale in India, costs of which range between ₹10 lakh and ₹35 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming Pan America 1250 adventure motorcycle and other models include the likes of Softail, Fat Bob, and Street Bob motorcycles are in the HD portfolio for India. The marketing exercise of the new launch, Pan America 1250 adventure is also expected to begin soon. HeroMotoCorp is also planning its own premium bike lineup with the HD badge as was announced sometime back .
