Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

From a sharp looking fairing to a confused fairing design, KTM has evolved backwards. On the flip side, few spy shots and sources indicate that the new gen RC siblings will have a slightly relaxed riding posture. People looking to get a track tool will be disappointed, but people who like the sports touring posture (like me) will be delighted.

The LED setup might be mostly for rc390 and above. Maybe RC250 if in reckon might get that.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

This is pure disaster.

RC range is one of the best looking bikes which gave customers that premium feel when compared to R15 ranges.
I feel, They could have taken Pulsar 220 headlight assembly as an inspiration instead of this as a part of cost reduction.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

I think that I am the only one who is not surprised by KTM's design decision here.

KTM has the Duke 390, 250, 200 and 125 in their naked bike range and pre-BS6, there was a clear distinction between the 390 and the rest of the range in terms of style. The 250 got a different headlight and the 200 and 125 got the same old BS3 headlight.

With BS6, the 390 and 250 have a similar shape, the 200 gets the old 250 headlight and the 125 retains the old (200) headlight. So again, KTM has maintained visual differentiation with its Duke range after stirring things up.

With the RC series though, the RC 390, 200 and 125 all looked the same and the only difference between them was the sticker jobs.

I have wondered when KTM will do a split similar to the Duke range, with the RC family and it looks like KTM has finally decided to move forward with this delayed decision. The styling of the new RC 200 (and I assume 125) looks awkward at best, then again it fits in with their design philosophy and KTMs arent known to be the most traditionally 'beautiful' designs around.

KTM brand managers will be happy. New RC 390 owners will be happiest. Potential buyers of the RC 125 and 200 though, may not share the same joy.

Makes sense. And to add to it, we might soon have 490's with us... They have to be kept reasonably different too, right?

This design has integrated indicators in the fairing, I'd like them more on the rear view mirrors, but I guess the target crowd is one which first removes the RVM's.
But its a very different design. Will have to see in flesh to comment anything more... Initial reaction is however, not the most positive it could've been.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

This was bound to happen. Right from the testing spy shots in Austria, it seemed like a handicapped one just like our sub 4 meter cars where the front and rear overhangs are shunted square. The front fascia isn't definitely a looker for sure, and will have mixed emotions from the commons.

What I do see is the revised wheel alloy spoke design, if I observe it right, it seems similar to that of an R3. Yet to see, how the overall design looks in flesh. Nevertheless, it's a yay or a nay design.

Cheers!

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

Came across a funky 2015 RC390 with the R15 V3 front facia shared by Powerdrift on their YouTube community page. Honestly, I quite like this setup. A contemporary split headlight design would look great on the upcoming big RCs.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

It is honestly appalling on the part of KTM to do such horrible design job for the beloved RCs. This is basically taking the duke headlights and building a fairing around them. Touring guys with a love for supersports will highly appreciate this design choice, but it just does not do justice to the RC brand as a whole.

I sincerely hope there is an 'R' version with better and aggressive styling.

Having been spotted on test already in September last year, the motorcycle entered production 3 months ago in India.

2021 KTM RC 200 spotted testing in India

The 2021 KTM RC 200 has been spotted testing in India. It may be recalled that in December 2020, the bike was seen undisguised on the production floor.

The bike gets a new fairing with a hexagonal headlamp, turn-indicators integrated into the front fascia, new orange alloy wheels, a larger windscreen and a flat seat. It also appears to get a larger fuel tank. At the rear, it gets LED tail lamps and two grab handles.

The RC 200 gets a new rear subframe. The bike is expected to be powered by a BS6-compliant 199.5cc, single-cylinder engine producing 25 BHP and 19.2 Nm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

Being a KTM owner myself, I'm very interested how this would look in the flesh once launched. From the spy pics many of us have disliked it, specially from the front but I think we shall not write it off yet. KTM have been known to pull it off with good liveries so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
What I've noticed from the spy pics is that those alloys look different, specially those disks in the front. It looks as thought the disk is floating, which looks good to me. The rear seat looks larger which is good as it was a major complaint with the last gen bike, also proper grab rails this time is good. The seating position also seems more upright than before unlike the last gen bike which had a very committed position. One downside I noticed is that the rear seat seems to be placed very high up which makes getting on and off difficult.
All in all we should be happy that they are finally updating this bike as the previous one had started looking dated no matter what color scheme they gave it.

Re: Next-gen KTM RC 200 caught testing

While testing the BMW R18, Dhanil Vira of Motorbeam had spotted one. He says its a 125. But visually similar to the 200's.

You are right but I take issue with the headlight design. Because from what I can see, it basically looks like a fully faired and lowered 390 Adventure. I understand that common parts can equate to a lower price but the RC identity (visual) is just not coming through with the reuse of the headlight

Yes that's true! I'm having Yamaha Fazer 25 flashbacks reading what you said. It totally ruined the bike and wiped off any brand value the Fazer name gathered with the Fazer 15. I hope that doesn't happen here but it surely seems to be heading in that direction.
