Honda to launch Hornet 200R in India. EDIT: Now Launched as Hornet 2.0

Source: ZigWheels

As we already know the xBlade BS6 got launched last month, sharing the same mill as the Unicorn (160cc BS6 PGM-Fi Engine).

Also, the CBF190R appeared on the web months ago when it got patented. Since we are yet to see a CB Hornet 160R, it's highly possible that the CBF190R will now be launched as Hornet 190/200R maybe instead.

Reasons? The Hornet badging is quite popular and has helped Honda to rack up a lot of sales in the last half decade, earning the bike a good name for itself.

Why not CB Hornet 160R?

It seems that Honda has planned something big for the CB Hornet and we have found through our sources that it will be introduced in a more powerful guise. Why not a 160 though?

The first gen Hornets made 15.6HP and was symbolic to a powerful street fighter to take on the likes of FZ and Gixxer. The BS4 update (Hornet was BS4 since day one) from early 2018 with ABS made the power bumped down to 14.9HP instead.

The BS6 update on xBlade drops it's power to 13.8HP and 12.8HP on the Unicorn. When comparing to the segment rivals, the figures are lowest in class and just next to FZ/FZ-S V3.0 which makes 12.4HP. The likes of Xtreme 160R, RTR 160 4V and Gixxer are offering atleast 15 horses and this is where maybe Honda decided to step with an engine which would make more power than the other 160's, while trying to price this bike in the 160 segment while retaining the Hornet badging. Sounds familiar? Ofcourse. This is what Hero did years ago with Xtreme 200R/S and xPulse.

And the CBF190R engine makes 16.6HP which is still lower for a 200cc but if offered for a competitive price, I think the design and engine combination could work in Honda's favour.

What do you guys think?

re: Honda to launch Hornet 200R in India. EDIT: Now Launched as Hornet 2.0

It could work. Even though it's down 1 or 2 bhp compared to the xtreme200R, it would probably do much better in the market because of the nicer appearance. But I doubt Honda would price it lower than the xtreme200.

A cb190R would also bring with it the hope of Honda introducing the xr190L based on the same engine. The Nepal model spec sheet claims a 127 kg wet weight which is great. It could be a great alternative to the heavier xpulse.

re: Honda to launch Hornet 200R in India. EDIT: Now Launched as Hornet 2.0

The new Honda design language has one very big flaw, that over sized rear fender kind of thing that makes the bike look long on paper but in reality the pillion seat length becomes laughable, in 160-200 cc segment pillion seat cannot be compromised. Honda needs to understand that.

X-Blade and Hornet had that better balance between comfort of Unicorn pillion seat and sportiness of CB300R design

Can't disagree with this. I own a Honda xBlade and the seat is wider than Hornet itself and more comfortable as well. But all in all, a Hornet 200 will hopefully be a good balance. Besides, if you look at the likes on Pulsar NS200 and Gixxer 250, their pillion seats are like this as well (international design adaptation in a way) so I guess people looking for wider seats will go for some other bike because I don't see Honda changing the patented design or maybe they will surprise us.

Motorbeam is running the news as well. I guess it's no longer a rumor at this point and more of speculation.

Honda is spiritedly working on a 200cc motorcycle that will likely be called the CB Hornet 200R and the launch of the brand’s first 200cc Indian bike could happen soon.

Back in July, Honda was said to be working on a motorcycle based on CBF 190R that it had patented in India not too long ago. Now, it has come to light that it will be the Hornet that will receive a bigger engine to take on the 200cc crop of bikes from Bajaj, Hero and TVS.

The Honda CB Hornet 200R might take styling cues from the above mentioned CBF 190R that gets sharp creases all around. We do not know if that bike’s angled headlight, small fairing, wide fuel tank, clip-on handlebar, will be carried as it is, but the new Hornet will for sure take inspiration from it.

Also, the digital cluster might be changed and the headlight will be an LED unit, in tune with the times. Engine-wise, the CBF 190R gets a 184cc air-cooled single-cylinder motor that produces 16.86 PS and 16.3 Nm of torque.

Do not worry, we can bet that the Hornet will put out numbers at least rivalling that of its…err…rivals. Unlike the bike it is based on, the Honda CB Hornet 200R might not come with USD forks. But, it will feature ABS, PGM-Fi technology and HET, among others.

Expect Honda to price the new Hornet above the X-Blade BS6 that costs Rs. 1.06 lakhs (ex-showroom) and on par with, if not lower than, its competition such as the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200, Hero Xtreme 200R and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.

On one hand Yamaha skimps on offering USD forks on the R3 and the R15 citing cost and on the other hand Honda offers it on the CB300R and now a sub 200cc commuter motorcycle.

re: Honda to launch Hornet 200R in India. EDIT: Now Launched as Hornet 2.0

Is this their "sports" model? Very sad to see their poor focus on performance segment in India. They are happy selling just scooters and now this poor effort. When I enquired for cbr250 they had no idea about bs6 launch and old stocks were from 2018/19. Compare to Yamaha who have a good range of options for the enthusiast.

^^ But we don't know the specs yet. Sure it will be lacking a few horses compared to the cbr250R, and considering it's an air cooled engine, I doubt it would match the rtr200 in terms output, but I'd wait anyway for the reveal before I put it down. Honda could come up with a nice package.

re: Honda to launch Hornet 200R in India. EDIT: Now Launched as Hornet 2.0

I am expecting a 16-17 bhp, considering that it would be a n air-cooled 200 cc engine. Also because Honda typically has aways played it very safe in the power game so far in our subcontinent. But looking at the sporty gold coloured USD forks, I would be very happy to be proved wrong. It would be nice to see a 20+ bhp bike what does justice to the looks.

My expectations exactly. A bike with 16-17 and those USD forks wouldn't do any justice by a long shot. I don't think they can extract 20+ from an air cooled engine. They need atleast to put CBR's cooling mechanism. Part of me is that they will play a joke like Hero did and introduce an underpowered 200cc engine like the Xtreme/xPulse platform (most likely).

re: Honda to launch Hornet 200R in India. EDIT: Now Launched as Hornet 2.0

I wish Honda brings-in some freshness into this segment with this launch, though I am keeping my hopes low. I'm looking for a bike in the 200-250cc segment and eyeing the Gixxer 250 currently, since it seems to be near-perfect for my requirements. Had the CBR250R been on sale now, I would have picked one up in a jiffy. Lets see what Honda has in store now. Some USP, apart from the USD forks, like say a 6th cog, would make it more appealing.

Even though the rumoured engine specifications don't seem exciting at all, if priced right, I believe this may find takers. And they have to get the price right; we have a lot of capable products in this segment now, and things aren't the same as they were in 2011 when the 250R was launched.

My TVS Wego can overtake my Hornet 160R any damn day
However hard I push it, this fellow never goes beyond 5500 RPM. Max speed on highway achieved is 82 KMPH.
I doubt is it me being a noob in bikes or I got duped with the TV ad ?
