New Unicorn Launched

Quote:
HMSI has not had too much luck – they’ve launched two brilliant, if slightly boring motorcycles, but now things are moving along at a fair clip – they’ve launched the new Unicorn with a new headlamp/fairing and decals, alloy rims, and a special edition as well! The Sporty Unicorn retails at Rs.58150 and the Grand Prix limited edition, at Rs.59425, ex-showroom, Delhi.
They’re working on a fuel-injected bike, and that means PGM-FI. The competition will be quaking in their boots. A scooter is also in the pipeline – and if the sales of the Eterno, Dio and Activa are anything to go by, their competitors will have probably already thrown up their hands, said “Oh, what’s the use?” and gone home to tea and biscuits.
If you’re a Honda fan and thought that HMSI took a step backwards from the Unicorn by launching a smaller-capacity bike next, there’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news first: they’re planning on muscling in to the 100cc segment. This throws up some interesting questions: with Bajaj moving out of the way (and higher up the displacement ladder), Hero Honda are by far, the segment leaders. Will Honda cannibalise sales from HH? HMSI claims that since the 100cc segment is a growing one, there is space for both companies. Another question that springs to mind is about the pricing: Honda has always commanded a premium, but at the 100cc end, the margins are small and the customer is looking at the cheapest bike, both to purchase and maintain. Also, not too long ago, Hero Honda had expressed the desire to move into the passenger car market, and Honda didn’t approve of it at all. We wonder what’s going on.
Ah yes, the good news – we’d almost forgotten. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Ltd is also considering entertaining the enthusiast by either importing a more-than-500cc model, or assembling a sub-500cc one in the country. CBR 600 RR, anyone? If you think we should have it, contact HMSI, tell them you want it here. Who knows, maybe they’ll listen!
And while we wait for the 600’s HMSI has dished out the 2007 Unicorn. It’s now known as the SPorty Unicorn. From the looks of it there’s little more than some paint and plastics that have been resprayed and reshaped to give it the “Sporty” tag.

Hang on, it doesnt end there. To crank it up a notch there’s a Limited Edition Unicorn in Repsol Honda colours. Its better because you’ll look more sporty on the Limited Editionversion. But, inside your head you’ll be lusting after the one that’s sporty from the inside. CBR600 please. If not, a 250?
