Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

The Etergo has few jaw dropping features.

- 240km range on a full change.
- Swappable batteries and each weighs just 7.5 kgs
- Fully chargeable in 2.3 hours
- 0-45 in 3.9 seconds
- 7 in touchscreen In Scooter Entertainment (yes music too)
- Both front and rear disk bakes

These are ahead of even the premium Ather scooter. Looking at the mass production the price per unit should come down drastically but is still unknown. Who needs public charging infra when the range is 200km for a city scooter?

If they can provide all this at 70-80K on road, with good build quality, Ola is bound to utilise all that factory capacity pretty fast.

240 km of range is not feasible in real-world conditions. It is at a constant speed of 20 km/h. It will definitely get more range than the Ather 450x and Chetak as it has bigger battery (3.465 KWh vs 2.9 KWh of 450x and 2.8 KWh of Chetak) and it's much lighter. I think it will get around 100 to 120km of range in real-world conditions due to the larger battery and lightweight.

Also, I don't think it can be priced as low as Rs 80K. As per rumors, it will be priced at Rs 1 lakh (maybe Rs 99K?). At Rs 1 lakh it will be very very successful.

To be honest, going forward this will actually be an effective way for long-distance travelling if we are unable to crack the range issue. This will mean the maintenance of the scooter and life of the product is not bound by the battery. Lets us hope we do not corrupt the system somehow when introduced in India.

And it is a viable option as well for cars if designed accordingly.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

This is fantastic news for the EV scene in India!

The scooter plant is coming up at Hosur in Krishnagiri district (source), the city/town where Ather is already in the process of constructing their own electric two-wheeler plant. With other big automobile companies like TVS, Ashok Leyland, Kamaz, Citroën-HM JV Avtec and Caterpillar already having factories here, Hosur is fast emerging as a rival auto manufacturing hub to Chennai (& its outskirts) within Tamil Nadu.

The investment by Ola/Etergo in the Hosur plant is calculated to be Rs 2,354 crore with an employment potential for about 2,182 persons (source).

This scooter factory MoU is a part of 18 MoUs signed by the TN government today, with a total investment of Rs. 20,000 crore and total employment potential of more than 26,000 jobs throughout TN.

Tamil Nadu had recently come up with a visionary EV policy, which includes 0% road tax for all EVs till December 31, 2022. This EV policy also includes considerable incentives to attract EV manufacturers to set up factories in TN. It looks like the policy has started working by attracting EV manufacturers to set up shop in the state.

It seems that they are looking to price it very competitively. Maybe under 1lakh as per this https://m.dailyhunt.in/news/india/en...sid-n233776376

Even if it is a bit more than this, given those specs it looks very competitive.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

Good to see more options coming up. I want to buy an electric scooter but my search continues.

Ather is too costly.
TVS iQube had hub motor.
Chetak is heavy and can't remove batteries for home charging.(my choice for now)
Etergo looks promising, though the suspension looks weak to me, hope they change the design for Indian conditions.

so definitely possible in Bangalore traffic?

On a serious note, scooters hardly ever go above 40-50 km/h, so range reduction shouldn't be that much, right?

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

Happy to see Ola is looking to have electric charging stations across various locations in different cities.

I am one among many, eagerly waiting to look for this electric Scooter. Once i see it in person and do a test drive, will make a booking.
Fingers crossed.

As long as the "CHARGING STATION" Concept remains, EVs will never break into MASS Market. It'll remain NICHE/NOVELTY.

Battery Technology Needs to change, Li-Ion Isn't the Solution.

Ola Electric scooter spotted testing. Expected to be based on the Dutch-made Etergo electric scooter.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

The Etergo is a Dutch design meant for the european markets primarily; where a personal vehicle is meant to be just that, a personal vehicle.
In India, we want a vehicle which is flexible, i.e. take some shopping bags, take boxes, anything.
We NEED a flat floor board. I do hope Ola can sort that out on this scooter.

Re: Ola Electric acquires Netherlands based e-scooter firm Etergo

Is the person riding of large stature or is the scooter quite small on pillion space?

The scooter looks well put together though, and I like the fact that being electric isn't the only design style this scooter has got going on. Its high time manufacturers "normalize" electric vehicles with contemporary designs. Electric cars are on the right track, but scooters still have some distance to go in that area.

PS: I like how these "Spy" shots are clearly at a closed testing facility and tastefully captured pictures.
