Re: Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear BS6 launched at Rs. 59,802

Close to ex-showroom INR 60k for a Platina?

The times have moved on so far. Wow!

Not sure why I am surprised all the time when I look at these prices with every news. All the more sense for folks like me to keep their bikes for a prolonged period. Just 12 years ago(read not Stone Age) my parents paid INR 65k On-Road for a Pulsar 180 with 16.5 BHP. I just can not comprehend that I would have to pay the same amount for a bike with half the power.

They have maintained the value proposition against the Splendor 100cc which now costs 61,900/- in the BS6 variant.

Same here. My Pulsar 180 DTSi was 64k on-road.

The original Platina was launched in 2006 with an ex-showroom price ~34k. But then, emission norms, government-mandated features and depreciation constantly keep driving the prices up!

Is it just me or the rear overhang of the bike looks a bit too high up and far away from the wheel? Its giving me a vibe that it will always do a wheely if there is a pillion rider . The original Platina (based on the Wind125) had a very understated clean look about it. This one looks a bit too flamboyant. Well - going with what the market wants obviously.

+1 ! I purchased a brand new Suzuki GS150R in 2014 for about 70K or so OTR! And that even has a 6th gear along with everything else being better than a commuter bike. Makes me realize the value of my possession even more now .

Sorry for going off-topic but couldn't help wondering.

For this same Pulsar 180, I paid 84k on-road in Bangalore back in 2012. A good 20k hike in four years. Even the 220F and Karizma R were available for less than a lakh rupees. As of today, most of the 150cc bikes would cost more than a lakh!

What is this H-Gear? Is this just a marketing gimmick or some different kind of gearing?

This is what I found. I believed it was some Technical advancement. Someone correct me if I am wrong here. The all down 5-speed gearbox was there on the first three generations of 150 cc Pulsars. It can be this is the first time the same is being used with some improvements for the Platina.

Quote:
The biggest update of course, is the 5-speed gearbox. There is a link type gear-shifter and the all-down gear-shift pattern is similar to any of the 100 - 110 cc bikes with a 4-speed gearbox. Bajaj says that the 'H' in H Gear stands for 'Happy' and 'Highway'. Basically, what Bajaj wants to say is that the 5th gear not only improves the performance but the efficiency as well. Yes, the Platina H Gear has a claimed fuel efficiency of 84 kmpl.

Marketing Gimmick, it is just an overdrive gear marketed to sound cool.

Usually on 5 speed motorcycles other than the ones from Royal Enfield the gears after 3rd is overdrive i.e ratio less than 1.00.

Eg:
KTM Duke 390
Gear 1: 2.67
Gear 2: 1.86
Gear 3: 1.42
Gear 4: 1.14
Gear 5: 0.96 => Overdrive!
Gear 6: 0.84 => Overdrive!

Along with the 5-speed gearbox - it also now comes with a gear shift indicator and gear selection assistance.

Bajaj also claims an 'Anti-skid braking system'. What marketing gimmick is this now? Bike doesn't have ABS.

Found this information,

The major addition to the Platina 110 is that the bike is equipped with CBS (Combi-Brake System), and Bajaj calls it “Anti-Skid Braking System”.

Apparently, it is present since the 2018 Platina launched in December 2018. Nothing new there.

Guess the marketing department just couldn't resist bringing in another fancy word to make it sound like a different feature altogether.
