re: 2020 BMW G310R and 310GS facelift

Congratulations for all the owners, and may whatever the force that there is out there, be with them and for a long time to come. Each to his own, and I think it's better we appreciate and help it rather than taking them point blank.

Cheers!

re: 2020 BMW G310R and 310GS facelift

Sharing some pics from a short ride this morning to keep the thread going. The terrain was quite challenging in parts with lots of stones and ruts. Was worried about the ground clearance, esp as i have the center stand on the bike, but thankfully no mishaps. Just one simple fall due to missed footing, and we made back in good shape. Have slowly started enjoying such rides from the earlier staple breakfast rides. The view at the end is mostly rewarding.

Looks like the destination really made up the day. Would you mind sharing the co ordinates? Is this doable on the Interceptor?

The place is somewhere ahead of chikkaballapura around avalabetta hills. I was following friend. Will get the details and share. This route will be difficult on interceptor, as the bash plate will surely take beating. I am sure other bikes go there as well but most may end up hitting the underbelly. we saw plenty of such scrape marks on the stones. Ideally xpulse territory.

Hope the dealership found the issue and fixed it. You are the only hope to bring some goods news on dealership attitude and workmanship amidst all the fiasco (BMW & Triumph) we have been witnessing lately.

Please do share the location. Both the BMW 310 and the KTM 390 are no fun on the highway and as you quoted, the staple breakfast rides have become boring. Am exploring trails around Bangalore, and its great fun!

Here is the update from the comment section of the YouTube video.
I must say this will deter many from buying this bike.
Why so SAD BMW?

"Lutenys Motorrad responded very positively and immediately - my purchase experience with them was brilliant too. I am hoping they can solve this issue tomorrow - trying my best to go there. Will keep you updated!
Updated on 6th : so when I left the bike yesterday on 5th morning, I got a reply at about 10 from service team saying bike is working properly. To my utter shock, the video they sent me showed the same. I had dropped the bike and gone off for my shoots. So I asked them if anything was done on the bike. They said nothing. I couldn't believe it.
Today on the 6th went to pick it up and as they said, gears were slotting fine. But I am sure they must have done something : I tried it ample times on 4th evening and then on 5th when I had gone to drop the bike but had failed. So how could it start working magically?
I asked what if it happens again. I was told you need to get the bike. I said I don't want to burn the clutch and why shall I spend on towing charges. I was told take RSA but my defence, why take RSA for company's fault.
On the whole, no satisfactory reply was given why the problem occured and likewise I can't come to terms with the fact that the gearbox started working again magically without any changes done.
All I can do now is keep my fingers crossed.

Golden rule in bikes or cars is to make sure you can replicate the issue at the workshop in front of the service guys.

As an example, my Storme tail gate has developed a mind of its own. Sometimes it opens with the outside latch, some(most)times it does not.

It is most frustrating therefore to drive 20 km to the service pit in Devachi Urli (mass land fill zone of Poona and in the crosshairs for various reasons) and when I reach there and have all the service guys assembled (primed by my phone calls and displeasure) and when I try to open the tail gate it opens softly and smoothly with a nice click.

I am frustrated, and the service guys are looking at me politely with that annoying "what were you talking about" look barely hidden.

Not saying that's the case here, but its always a hit and miss sometimes trying to bring just that right rattle or grind or ticking sound to the attention of the service guys at the right moment, when its been bugging you for scores/hundreds of kilometres otherwise without respite.

Cheers, Doc

Here the issue is captured in the video already. The video is public as well.
Saying nothing was wrong is like hiding the reason behind the issue.
Your point is agreed, however the example given is for tail gate noise and here it is a serious issue of stuck gear which hampers the drivability of vehicle.

You are right doc but believe you me, when i dropped the bike at about 8:30am, the problem was there. It was my bad luck that I had to leave for Manesar and hence couldn't see them attending to my bike in front of me. I don't mean to say (incase BMW is reading this...) they are lying but it was a shock of sorts to get a call that the bike is working FINE!

Praneel did the update here

Sharing some pictures here - love the bike no doubt but this one issue has left a mark. Also love the generous 6k rpm run-in which is about 100 in 6th gear. Damn flickable too.

Ya I've seen the video.

But the service guys can still claim that the bike came to them with the gears shifting properly unless the owner actually demonstrated them not shifting to the service team in person.

Any service guy will tell you that if there is no problem/malfunction, it is not possible for them to find a solution to one.

It is still possible for the gears to shift suddenly after the owner leaves, but at least then the service team will have to actually dissemble the assembly and do a investigation and provide a reason for why it was not happening in the morning when the bike was dropped off.

After all, you cannot have gears deciding on their own when to engage and disengage. Just sharing my experience of dealing with company workshops. Both within and outside warranty (night and day difference).

You and I both know they are lying. I won't even mince words here.

They know who you are and are scared about the reach in terms of media and readership your report will get them.

The solution to this you also know. Days, weeks later, you need to get comfortable with one of the mechanics inside. And you will get to know exactly what was done and replaced.

Cheers, Doc

It is happening because of dirt settlement inside the lock and latch. Ask them to open the door pad, and clean and lubricate everything. It happened with me once, and my SA knew what was the cause.

Thanks mate.
That's really a bummer. Having a resolution at hand is much better that sitting ducks. How can something, which the user has been facing for couple of 100 kms, get sorted magically as soon as it is in hands of service center ?

Yep. That run-in is quite generous.
Hope you don't face any issues again. Ride safe and keep sharing your experience !!

re: 2020 BMW G310R and 310GS facelift

So got a call from Tusker today.
Apparently, the BMW folks underestimated demand for the RallyE edition and hence the production for this color scheme is delayed by 3 - 4 weeks (as >80% of bookings are for this edition).

So my wait extends till 15th Dec now !!

Others who are lucky enough to ride with their new machines, please keep on sharing your impressions. Will help in killing the time

On other note, Tusker is running promotions on the official accessories. Attaching the PDF for those who are interested.

BunnyPunia, Im totally speechless, man. Despite having a video to refer to and see how the bike had an issue, these guys are saying that it is fine. God help BMW owners who face any issues and dont have the ability to record the problem themselves at that moment

Some of us were discussing just this on one of the BMW threads a week or two ago, the (quirky / garish?) RallyE edition colour scheme is so eye-catching compared to the BS4 ones that this will draw in a lot of buyers into BMW showrooms. I certainly did not expect over 80% bookings for it though!

Does anyone know if deliveries have started in Kerala for the new 310 bikes? I am yet to see a single one till now.
