Ather 450 e-scooter to be launched in 4 more cities

Ather Energy plans to launch its 450 electric scooter in four more cities. The new list of cities includes Ahmedabad, Kochi, Coimbatore and Kolkata.

At present, Ather Energy has presence in Bangalore and Chennai. In January 2020, the company had announced that it will sell the 450 in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad apart from Bangalore and Chennai.

Last month, Ather also launched the 450X - a variant of the 450 e-scooter. The 450X is powered by an electric motor that has a peak output of 8 BHP and 26 Nm. Ather claims that it will accelerate from 0-40 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 80 km/h.

The 450X is comes with a 2.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that has a claimed maximum range of 70 km on single charge. In Eco mode, the claimed range is 85 km. It takes a claimed 3 hours 35 minutes to charge the battery to 80% of its capacity and 5 hours 45 mins to charge it to 100%.

Any numbers on actual sales of Ather? We know they are "sold out for the rest of this year's production", but it would be interesting to see actual numbers.

For example, to set context, Bajaj says they've dispatched 21 units of Chetak Electric in January.

I would want to understand some real numbers behind the successful e-scooter story.

They've sold ~3000 units in the last 12 months.
In my view, while the promise of market acceptance is good for buzz, eventually numbers speak.

Hopefully, this year people will filter out the noise and focus on actual sales.

Sales of 3000 units in 2 cities without any dealership network seems really good when compared with Okinawa,Hero that have nationwide presence.
