Aprilia SXR 160 production to commence soon

Piaggio will soon commence the production of the Aprilia SXR 160 at its Baramati plant.



The Aprilia SXR 160 was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Later, in September this year, the bike maker released a teaser image, suggesting its imminent launch.

The SXR 160 features dual headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. It has a short windscreen and comes with a digital instrument cluster offering Bluetooth connectivity.

The SXR 160 will be powered by a BS6-compliant 160cc, single-cylinder, 3-valve engine. The same engine powers the SR 160. It produces 10.7 BHP @ 7,600 rpm and 11.6 Nm @ 6,000 rpm.

The scooter rides on 12-inch wheels. It comes equipped with a front disc brake and has ABS.

Piaggio is gearing up for the launch of Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter in India in the last week of December 2020. The scooter will start arriving in the dealerships by the end of the month and deliveries will commence soon after the price announcements. Pre-bookings will commence from December 11.

I wonder what the OTR in Bengaluru will be?

A similar priced Vespa SXL 150 is 1.60OTR in Bengaluru.

That is similar to the Apache 200/ Pulsar NS

If it is launched for 1.27 ex-showroom, this should be priced between 1.60 to 1.65, depending how much dealer wants to add on the handling charges.

Pre booking is Rs.5000 (refundable if cancelled). Just spoke to a dealer in Mumbai. They dont know what the final cost is going to be. They dont have test ride vehicles available as of yet. Delivery will be in the first week of January 2021.

I so wanted this the moment I saw it at the Auto Expo in Feb. Postponed my plans for buying the SR160. Now with Covid and 2 new cars within a year, if I even mention it, I would be thrown out of the house.

What a sexy looking scooter! Got delivery of my Activa 125 on 7th November, 2020 The Activa is a very practical, no-nonsense little thing, so no complaints at all on that front.

Wonder how much money I will lose if I sell it off so soon. Will check out the reviews once it’s on the road, real world (a couple of my friends are buying it) and online.

Guess there won’t be any teething issues since the engine is carried over from the SR160. Hope they have done something with the suspension as the SR suspension is terrible/back breaking on our roads.

Look forward to reading reviews from our folks on this one.

This is going to be make or break for many including me. I thoroughly enjoyed my brother's rocket SR150. But suspension is one thing that could have been a tad soft. Everyday road is not a race track. In fact the suspension is quite raw. Need some cooking there to taste loving Indians.

I read somewhere that the Piaggio boffins have heeded the feedback regarding the hard suspension of the earlier Aprilia scooters and softened the suspension of the SXR 160.

Hope this works out to a good compromise with regards to good handling and rider comfort.

A neat and good looking Maxi-Scooter, which will be an upgrade to my 2015 TVS Jupiter with 11.5K on the odometer.

My dilemma all the Aprilia dealers around me Kanpur, Lucknow, allahabad have all closed down, the closest are about 300-400km away in Gzb, Bareilly, Mathura, maybe in the coming months some will crop up. I did talk to the Bareilly dealer and they expect the TD to happen in January.
