The report suggests that the new 200cc platform could be air-cooled producing in the range of 20-23 BHP. It could power a range of motorcycles including a street bike, a fully faired version and an off-road adventure bike.

The rumoured platform is expected to enable Honda to compete with products like the Apache 200 and Pulsar 200NS in the Indian market.

Re: Rumour: Honda developing 200cc bike platform for India

Not bad.

Being the largest manufacturer of bikes in the world Honda has all the engineering expertise and experience to make a great run of this 200cc mill. With BS-6 emission norms just around the corner, it makes sense to develop a powerplant which is compliant with the new emission standards while being powerful and economical enough to render service across varied platforms. A ~200 cc mill fits the bill just right IMO. It allows the right blend of power, fuel economy and affordability. Hero is already cashing in on the offerings presented and milking this segment, making that most of the first mover advantage (though the same can't be said of TVS who were there in this space much earlier).

All the same, this is probably the new segment (other than the ~100 cc commuters) where there's money to be made..

Cheers !

Re: Rumour: Honda developing 200cc bike platform for India

I believe they already have a 190cc air-cooled engine in the Chinese market. It's sole as a CB190, CB190 X (adventure). The Chinese 190cc engine seems similar to the 160cc Honda engines sold in India. They do, however, have USD forks on the 190cc bikes sold in China!
Could this 200cc engine be similar to the above or a new variant?
