Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

Feels good to have a classic 220 FI 2007 till date and running strong at 63000 kms. Haven’t been using it much since I got my hands on Ninja 300 last year.

I had a Pulsar 150 between 2005-2007 before I upgrade 220 FI in 2007 when it was launched. It’s DEFINETELY A MALE THING

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

After lots of pushing from my friends and girlfriend, I bought a Pulsar 220 in 2010. It was stolen after 1 year. But for that one year had amazing fun.

My main criteria was to get a 220 but without the fairing. I think Bajaj heard that and the naked version was launched and I bought one right away.

Best memory is getting a speeding fine at 142KMPH on the radar and the speedo read 148KMPH.

Only photo that I could find is below.

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

I think Bajaj should bring back the Adventure Series Bikes very soon. Added enhancements like a 20 liter fuel tank, raised suspension,Engine Guard,Saddle stay+ top rack could help them to sell the bikes like hot cakes .

Pic of my first gen Pulsar. This one was quite popular and have had many adventures with it.

I bought mine in 2006 (2ng Gen 150) when I joined an advertising agency as an intern. I was always handed down cycles/scooters/bikes because I am the youngest sibling. And me buying my bike was a declaration to my family - I'm a man now!

However paying rs. 3333 as monthly installment when you're only making rs. 5000 a month wasn't a bright idea really, but I do not regret that decision one bit.

Boy did I threw it around the corners. And the bike took me to my impromptu trips all over Gujarat and a couple of particular trips across to south Rajasthan to do what most young men in Gujarat usually used to go for in those days - Child Beer!

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

Oh Wow..
Been a Pulsar Fan from Childhood. At that time the only bike to compete with CBZ was Pulsar.
I owned 2004 Pulsar (Sold at 2007) after a major accident.
Bought a new one in 2007 and still own it..
I also bought 2011 Pulsar 180 and sold it off in 2015 due to my longer abroad trip.

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

Owned a first gen pulsar 150 until 2011. Over the years it had lost engine performance and the Pulsar's characteristics handling. Sold it in 2011 after 70k KMS. Since then I have owned 4 other bikes, but it's the Pulsar which remains closest to my heart. I've ridden the Pulsar in almost every kind of ride and most importantly almost every state of mind. It's on Pulsar that I discovered motorcycling in a strange way always gave me a sense of freedom. Incidentally it was also on Pulsar I had my first fall. Of the numerous good rides I had on this bike 3 experiences stand out. One in pouring rain, one with the sun setting on a beautiful evening, and one of my last rides on the bike where I got to see sunrise. Particularly the last one had a profound impact on me to keep riding... just any motorcycle.

More attached to Pulsar for emotional reasons than just its mechanical capabilities

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

Can't believe that there was a time when I used to despise Pulsars, being a Honda Fanboy(I now know better!) and a ZMA rider, a breed of enthusiasts who believed themselves to be elitists when it came to sports touring.

Anywho got the P220 on the last working day of 2014 to reap the maximum discounts, but for all intents and purposes she's a 2015 model. I didn't want to upgrade but I was forced by external forces and left without an option, so I chose the P220 from the Bajaj stable as it had the best headlight setup at the time.

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-9804ed22e2cc27d2057be2d702891a39.jpg

Over the years she has taken on many roles and filled them to perfection.

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-14589832_1059656380822582_5517334035027379168_o.jpg

Currently she is minimally equipped to avoid the darting glances of the Kerala MVD.

She currently sports the following;

1. Pulsar 150/180/200 RVM's as the stock ones are total BS!
2. Pulsar 135 Shocks, cause they make the motorcycle both 'Indian Road Worthy' with about 220mm ground clearance but at the same time makes her more front biased, with the stock clip-ons the handling has become exceptionally good, to the point that your wrists start paining after a while, but nonetheless she handles like a dream on the twisties.
3. Auto Cancelling Blinker Delete, they're a royal PITA!
4. Snorkel Delete, had no choice.
5. 80Wx2 Headlight Upgrade.
6. Hella Wiring Horn Harness and Roots Vibromini's, stock wiring loom has a cap on amphere draw, this negates that.
7. New Avenger Hand Grips, makes a world of difference, with stock grips the skin used to peel off my hands when touring interstate.
8. Joyride Seat Covers, cause they're seamless and reduces chances of roasting the bum after the motorcycles been parked under the blazing sun.
9. Discover Grab Rail, cause I detest Split grab rails when it comes to hauling luggage using tie-downs and the Discover ones not only protect the rear panel but also serve as a point to lift, drag, slide the motorcycle in tight parking spots.
10. TVS Apache RTR Front Brake MC, the feedback and stopping power simply makes not going for these a crime! Since I changed the MC I also changed the clutch yoke and lever for matching aesthetics.
11. GP Shift Pattern(1 UP 4 DOWN), not cause I race on the tracks, but cause my other motorcycle is a CT100B!

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-imag0067.jpg

To be honest I never thought I'd be keeping the P220 for so long when I got her, but a lot has changed since then, we've been through testing times and she has not once left me stranded in spite of being redlined in every possible gear at times for hours at an end.

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-imag0082.jpg

This engine is on a whole another level of its own, she doesn't leak, she SQUIRTS oil at times but as long as you keep an eye on the warning lights when pinning her to maintain stupid speeds on the interstate all is well.

Just change consumables religiously and run the cheapest engine oil be it motorcycle or diesel HDEO's doesn't matter, as long as you maintain a fair oil change interval(Mine's 1500~2000km's) she keeps clocking miles without complaint.

The Pulsar is purely Indian when it comes to its engine design philosophy,

"Screw the Jap's with their SIMPLICITY and the Italian's with their EFFICIENCY, we run like HELL and get you places no matter WHAT!"

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-img20191210wa0055.jpg

Hoping to cover many more miles with her, but first I have to attend to a few busted oil seals.

Cheers,
A.P.

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

It's a boy!!! Oh that ad still is fresh...and now he is an adult! It takes me back to the memory lane and the fun I had with that...Oh those were some days.
I asked my father for a Hero Puch when I joined my PUC (11th and 12th). But I got a Kinetic Luna which was used by my sister earlier.
I asked my father for a Fiero when I Joined my Engineering...I was told to continue with the Luna I refused and used to walk or take bus or ride pillion in friends' motorbikes. Later when the Pulsar was launched, started aspiring for that. I was in love with that tank. Many were afraid of that design though (people didn't want to lose their manhood you see ).

Here is a snap from my hostel room with the Pulsar Calendar from the Auto India Magazine

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-6.jpg

My father one day called me to his office and from there directly took me to a Bajaj Showroom and asked me to choose a colour of a Pulsar that I would want to buy I was on cloud9 and told the dealer to get me whichever is available immediately. I liked all the colours Blue, Black, Red and Silver. He told he'll give me the Blue. I was ok but. one other customer sitting beside was fighting with the dealer for the blue. he heard this got angrier at the dealer. He later came to me and requested If would be ok with a Silver that was being offered to him! I was completely ok. That's how I got my Silver Pulsar.

My Pulsar was the first Pulsar in my college with an electric start. The innumerable trips that I made during my college days brings back so much of good memories Here's a picture from one such trip

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-me-my-bike1.jpg

Filling the tank fully was such a prestige thing and I used to do it just for the thrill of it it used to get really front heavy though. Autographix for the body was such a craze at that time. I had got one too. However the best accessory I made was to put gears on the number plate. (those gears were from a Splendor I guess)

It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday-copy-dscf0029.jpg

In 2010 when I sold it, I kept this plate as a souvenir. Those 7 biking years of my life will be treasured for life. Not once did it give any trouble. It was an aspirational motorbike those times but now the Pulsar has lost that aspirational value with so many other options for people looking for motorbikes in that range!

IMO Pulsar is to Bajaj what M800 was to Maruti. Coincidentally I owned both!

"Its a Boy! ". Wow! 18 years already.

That advertisement captivated almost everybody back then. I remember standing and staring at the Pulsars back then. I was in Engineering college and some lucky folks in the hostel had Pulsars. There was always a one-upman-ship between those with the pulsars and CBZs.

The original version without the faring and the twin pod instrument cluster looked the classiest, just my opinion.

I never owned any bike or two wheeler, but if I could go back in time, after the RX100, this would be a bike I would have loved to ride.

Re: It is the Bajaj Pulsar's 18th Birthday

It is so great to see that pulsar has been consistently performing well even though there hasn’t been any significant upgrades to mechanicals. I had owned the infamous 135Ls which was my first motor vehicle and i remember its unconventional naked design was a head turner. It wasn’t exactly a thrill machine as bajaj pitched it to be but yet it had a good initial throttle response owing to its light weight. Of the 4 years of ownership i had to change clutch plate twice but regardless it served me well during my struggling phase.
