Yamaha has entered the 125cc scooter segment with the all-new BS6 Fascino 125 Fi.

Quote:
Yamaha has just entered the 125cc scooter segment in India with the Fascino 125 Fi. Prices for the BS6-compliant scooter start at Rs 66,430. The scooter is available in three variants - STD Drum Brake (Rs 66,430), STD Disc Brake (Rs 68,930), DLX Drum Brake (Rs 67,430) and DLX Disc Brake (Rs 69,930).

As its name suggests, this scooter is a higher-capacity version of the Fascino 110 which will be on sale until the mandatory BS6 norms come into effect. That said, the 125 has undergone some design changes. While the front is quite similar to the older model, the beaky rear-end is quite unique. The scooter also has a new tail-light that’s much larger than the one on the lower capacity Fascino. The 125cc Fascino also gets a wider rear tyre (now 110mm) than its predecessor.

The larger fuel-injected 125cc engine has also brought about a considerable bump in power. The Fascino 125 makes 8.2hp and 9.7Nm of torque in comparison to the BS4 113cc Fascino, which made 7.2hp and 8.1Nm. Interestingly, Yamaha claims that the new 125cc engine is 16 percent more efficient than the 113cc engine, with a fuel-efficiency figure of 58kpl.

Another mechanical update is the addition of ‘quiet engine start’, which we believe is similar to Honda’s silent start system that made its debut on the BS6 Activa 125. Yamaha has also added the stop-start feature to the new Fascino 125.

In terms of pricing, the Yamaha Fascino manages to undercut the Honda Activa BS6 that has a price that ranges from Rs 67,490 to Rs 74,490.

Re: Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi BS6 launched at Rs 66,430

The Fascino and Wego I remember particularly had banners at their respective ASC's that claimed 62kmpl fuel efficiency.

So now what's with this 58kml being 16% more efficient?

Good catch. Wonder how can they do such a mistake, or otherwise may be they are talking about thermal efficiency of the new engine vs old engine, or any other efficiency.

The earlier Fascino was 113cc and rated 66kmpl. This is a 125 which does 58, or 12% less. It could be in actual day to day city usage usage though given the improved efficiency from an FI setup and the stop-start system.

We all know the accuracy of the ARAI ratings in real world conditions.

The weight has also decreased to 99 Kg.
I would believe, making it the lightest scooter in its segment.
Should become popular with the new rider.

Re: Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi BS6 launched at Rs 66,430

I think it looks very fresh. The curves are a bit exaggerated and that elongated tail section coupled with the small rear wheel reminds me of an armadillo.

However, it looks swoopy and futuristic, worthy of 2020. It looks like it was certainly designed with artistic flair.

Yamaha certainly isn't the first to the BS6 party of the FI party, but they are the only ones who seem to be launching an all-new product for 2020. Every other scooter in the market is at least a year old. All the more appealing is the fact that the engine is also all-new, and has the latest tech on offer, like the quiet start, start-stop tech, and FI.

I am in the market now for a new scooter, and the Activa 125 BS6, even with all the new features, still looked exactly the same as the old model. The Ntorq's recently launched Race Edition had all the good stuff in the NTorq, plus the LED headlamp and DRLs which made it stand out from the regular NTorq. But it too has become a lot common.

The new Fascino shook up things for me, as it looks very new, yet instantly recognisable as a Fascino. I had seen the camouflaged test bikes, but the final version looks a lot more cohesive than I imagined.

The next day, I contacted the local dealer I had been in touch with through Whatsapp and asked him about the booking details, price, expected dates, etc. He replied that it was probably a launch in some other country, and they would have gotten details of such a product at least a month before the launch. I had to send him screenshots from the website before I got a reply. By afternoon, another person from the dealership contacted me and said that the bookings and delivery would not start until mid-February at least. She also said that there were discounts on the existing models which would be there only till December.

Compared to the Activa 125 BS6, the only other BS6 scooter in the segment, The Fascino is lighter, fresher looking, and is cheaper by about 7000 Rs. (ex-showroom, Mumbai). I can't wait for a proper comparison and test drive review.

Re: Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi BS6 launched at Rs 66,430

Bookings have started for the Fascino BS6. I went ahead and booked the disc variant in Matte Blue color for my wife. Deliveries are expected to start by late January. The reviews should also be out by then. A token booking amount of Rs. 2000 was paid.

Going by the ex-showroom pricing, the on-road price should be under 88K here at Ottapalam, Kerala including basic accessories and frills.

Here are the other colors available.

The Red and Yellow colors are available only on the Disc variants.

The Official Website is up.

Regarding the pricing, I have been shopping around for a couple of months now, and I feel that the pricing is just spot-on.

The Activa 125 BS6 in top trim costs about 1.05 lacs on road here, 17K more than the Fascino. The base Activa 125 BS6 is 93K OTR, with drum brakes, steel wheels, and no start-stop tech.

As for the BS4 models,
Hero Destini 125 is 81K OTR, and the least expensive 125cc scoot.
Aprilia Storm 125 is 83K.
Access 125 Special Edition is 85K. Regular Access (Disc) is about 83K.
Maestro Edge 125 FI is 84K OTR. Carb model is 82.5K.
TVS Ntorq Race Edition is 87K OTR. Standard Ntorq Disc is 84K.
Burgman Street costs 91K.
Vespa Urban Club 125 is 91K.

Fascino 125 misses out on some useful features, like external fuel filling, remote seat unlocking, brake lock, LED lighting, DRLs, digital meters, pass switch, etc which are available on many of the competitors.

What you do get is BS6, an all-new premium design, new light weight chassis, higher FE, good build quality (as per the launch reviews), and Yamaha reliability and branding. Hopefully, I'll be starting a new ownership thread soon.
