Rumour: BS6 TVS bikes & scooters to be Rs. 9-38k more expensive

Thanks to the Team-BHP fan (he prefers to remain anonymous) who sent this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this page!

According to a leaked document, TVS will be hiking the prices of its bikes and scooters from January 1, 2020. On-road prices of BS6 2-wheelers could go up by Rs. 9,000-38,000 depending on the model.

The Scooty Pep+ is likely to see a price rise of Rs. 8,124, while the prices of the Jupiter are likely to go up by Rs. 9,670-11,288. The NTorq will also get more expensive by Rs. 10,501-11,389.

TVS's commuter bike range is expected to see a price rise ranging from Rs. 9,054-10,715. The prices of the Apache are likely to be hiked by Rs. 15,957-20,375.

The Apache RR 310 is likely to see the biggest price hike. The on-road price of the bike could go up by Rs. 38,870.

I recently did a test ride of the RE Interceptor and the guy who showed up to my place told me that its on-road price would be hiked by min. Rs 50-60,000! Once can still buy the BS IV models till 31 Mar'20, don't know why anyone would pay for BS VI models right from Jan'20! Although it won't be a mad rush like the BS III to IV crossover in Mar'17, I still expect good deals around that time period.

The price increment for TVS BS6 two wheelers is exactly 15% more than BS4 engines. This figure 15% can seem real high for costly vehicles, than it does for cheaper ones.

I am surprised to see such a big difference, when in case of Maruti, the difference is not so big, even in monetary terms. 15% difference for a petrol vehicle is too much.

I think BS4 clearance - if and when it begins - will be best time to buy your dream costly vehicles.

All 2 wheelers are now getting FI (and OBD port?) for BS6, so such price hike is justified.

Thought it was just cars, even 2-wheeler prices are astronomical now. At this rate the industry will perish sooner than expected. And the fierce competition from low cost chinese entrants is not encouraging as well.

+multiple sensors in the tail pipe/inlet (not to mention drop in peak power output). Also, this is just initial phase of BS VI roll out, next phase will also involve 'Real Driving Emissions' (RDE) or in use conformity checks etc. So expect life to be a lot tougher for OEMs and buyers in the coming years.

Who is going to buy that RR 310 now?

It is a decent motorcycle, yes.
But for that price, NO THANKS.

In that case, this will not be limited to TVS alone. Almost every manufacturer will have to increase the prices. So may be we should edit the thread name first. Although the price hike is justified, I feel this will make it difficult for some people to opt for new vehicles and the used vehicle market will be the only one to reap benefits.

Manufacturers want to be better prepared now, after the BS3 debacle & the huge inventory they were stuck with. That's why some brands are switching over to BS6 before the deadline.

There are also so many stakeholders & logistical challenges that no one can perfectly time the switchover in end-March.

True, but from a buyer's point of view, better wait till the end

re: Rumour: BS6 TVS bikes & scooters to be Rs. 9-38k more expensive

Guys,

My apologies. It appears that the numbers are incorrect. Not only did I have a long call with TVS, but I myself see that some numbers are off (e.g. Jupiter BS6 is already launched at 68k).

Again, sorry about this, but that's the nature of scoops. 10% of the times, wrong information can come in.

Closing thread until the official announcement is made.
