I did not find RE owners to have materially different ego's before or after they bought their RE. What I did see was people who enjoyed their bike to a very great extend.

I have said it many times, humans do not make rational choices. We base all our decisions on emotion and next find a set of rational criteria to validate our emotional choices.

You can say a lot about Royal Enfield, but if anything it brings up a lot of emotions!

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield working on electric bike

Despite loving the idea of noiseless, emissionless electric vehicles conquering the roads, and tuning myself to electric vehicle news in youtube and the other 'tube', frankly I don't have any hope of electric vehicle revolutions coming anytime soon.

May be if Mr Goodenough is really successful with his sodium - glass solid-state batteries.

But like every business house /industrialists, no one wants that customer drive a vehicle which has very little service (service centres will have a very scaled down activity except for body shop for dent and repair etc for accidents - if the company has a a very good build quality). Service centre as another way of fleecing customer and generating income will stop. Before they launch an electric bike they will find a way to put contraptions into the vehicle to milk the hapless customer - just like an inkjet printer.

Also an electric bike from RE with all the heft, range anxiety and no thump doesn't seem to be quite a prospect for the company and me as of now.

Also Chinese manufacturers will make similar copies if RE eventually does make a successful EV "bullet", for everything electrical and electronic is their forte.

Royal Enfield’s first EV to be based on L-platform

Royal Enfield has been working on an all-electric motorcycle for quite some time now. Known internally as the ‘Electrik01’, the bike is said to be in its initial phases of development. Now, a new report sheds more light on the brand’s first electric bike.

Royal Enfield’s first electric bike is likely to be launched around the second half of next year. It will reportedly be based on a new 96V architecture, known internally as the ‘L-platform’.

According to the company, the 96V system would ensure better performance. It also intends to create “uniquely differentiated” electric motorcycles.

The report states that the L-platform will spawn a range of products. Depending on the body style, the platforms have been designated as L1A, L1B and L1C.

Earlier, an image of the Royal Enfield Electrik01 concept bike had surfaced online. It showcased a neo-retro design with a brushed aluminium frame and a girder fork setup.

Re: Rumour: Royal Enfield working on electric bike

Royal Enfield L1A electric bike could be called Flying Flea

According to a media report, Royal Enfield has made significant progress on its brand-new electric platform. There are two models currently being developed – codenamed L1A and L1K, with the former expected to carry the 'Flying Flea' badge.

The report states that the L1A electric bike could be positioned as an entry-level model. It will be lightweight and will offer decent range and performance. The first tooled-up bike is likely to be ready within the next 6 months and it may be a single-seater. The L1K, on the other hand, is said to be an electric ADV bike.

Royal Enfield is also developing electric powertrains for its upcoming EVs. These could deliver around 9 kW of continuous power and a peak output of 16 kW.

The L1A and L1K are likely to use 60-120 volt battery architecture. The company is said to be looking into 48-60 volt Lithium Ferrous Phosphate (LFP) batteries as an affordable alternative. Moreover, the Stark VARG-based model could use a 350-volt battery.

As per the report, Royal Enfield plans to produce 60,000 electric bikes every year, which could double in 2026.
