The trail was extremely technical. My friend, who is a rally veteran and a raid podium finisher, mentioned that this trail is a lot like the first few stages of the Raid

Best Tuesday EVER!!
What preload setting are you on with that shock?

Re: Offroad Riding - Tips & Advice

Had a ride out after a long time today. It was a foggy morning. Passed through some villages, a small reserve forest, lots of farmland trails, and climbed a couple of hills.

And I decided to take pictures this time.

Here's some of the kinds of roads that were on offer, and a few scenic shots.

The fisheye effect of the phone camera really flattens out the image. I hate it. Does anyone know a good camera phone with an FoV closer to the human eye?

You need to tell us about Impulse vs Xpulse on that trail.

Haven't taken these out to the trail yet. Will give my update on this shortly

Each bike has it's own place on the trail. The impulse is lighter and far more nimble. The xpulse, especially with that rally kit, has a kickass suspension

Where the impulse shines is when the track starts to get twisty and tight. The xpulse does much better where the ground underneath becomes god awful nasty. Think big rocks and ruts. That 21 inch front rolls over stuff so much better. The turn in is slow but more stable. The impulse however starts to get thrown around a lot when that nastiness shows up and if you insist on picking up the pace there, it's not a particularly pleasant experience

Hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything in particular you'd like to know

Re: Offroad Riding - Tips & Advice

The more I ride these technical "obstacle" type trails, the more I love it. Hope you guys like the vid

Re: Offroad Riding - Tips & Advice

Couple of pics from trail ride this weekend.

Guys a quick question - while gunning hard on trails, do you have your fingers rested on front brake lever. I am finding it hard to manage the throttle response while keeping my fingers on brake as the acceleration tends to throw me a bit backwards.

Any pointers on what I am doing wrong ?

Your attack position is probably wrong.

You are probably doing this

When you should be doing this

I have practiced both and the attack position (knee holding the bike, center of gravity over the handlebar, hands not gripping the bar tight) ensures you will not be thrown back when you accelerate.

Thanks for this.
I do try to pull myself forward and keep chin above the handle bar. However, will try to tweak the position further. I also feel that my touring gloves during trail riding play a huge spoilt sport as they are quite thick and hamper my grip

Need to upgrade gear soon. Will post about this in riding gear thread.

Forget Trails, my gloves are made from Leather and I don't even bother wearing them when I'd be fully committing to Tarmac Riding.

Leather/Touring Gloves are the most secure with the exception of metal braided track gloves but they also do hinder feedback by a fair bit and without feedback one really can't push to the limits, people still do but that ignorance at play IMHO.

Regard,
A.P.
