Rumour: Benelli to launch entry-level Scrambler Leoncino 250 on 5th October 2019

Benelli Leoncino 250 launched at Rs. 2.5 lakh-benellileoncino250.jpg
Entry-level scrambler is powered by 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that produces 25.8hp and 21.2Nm of torque.

Benelli India is likely to launch the Leoncino 250 on October 5, 2019. The Leoncino 250 is the company’s new entrant in the quarter-litre segment after the Benelli TNT25 was discontinued in 2018.

The Leoncino 250 is the entry-level scrambler in Benelli's portfolio. As the name suggests, its styling is similar to the recently launched Leoncino 500 (except for the oval headlamp and the fluorescent graphics), down to the Lion cub motif on the front fender. However, it’s a completely new motorcycle underneath. The steel-trellis chassis, swingarm and suspension is specific to the Leoncino 250 and so is the all-digital instrument cluster. The bike also gets a petal-shaped, single disc at the front with axially mounted calipers. Dual-channel ABS is standard. The Benelli Leoncino 250 rides on smaller tyres – a 110/70-R17 at the front and a 150/60-R17 at the rear.

Powering the Leoncino 250 is a 249cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor based on the Benelli TNT 25’s mill, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. However, the engine on the Leoncino 250 produces 25.8hp (slightly higher than the TNT 25) and 21.2Nm of torque (slightly lower than the street-naked motorcycle).

Currently, there are no 250cc, scrambler-style motorcycles on sale in the country – which makes the Leoncino 250 quite a unique proposition. That said, Benelli India is expected to price the motorcycle competitively. It could be the most affordable Benelli bike in our market with an estimated price at around Rs 1.8-2 lakh. However, this could drop in the future as Benelli has plans to localise components for its motorcycles in India.

Well, if only they have had the 300 twin in this, I’d have given this some serious thought. Leoncino by itself is going to be a premium category. So why plonk only a single?

Looks like a bigger Honda Navi! Does anyone think this will sell even a 100 units in India?

Absolutely! And that twin sounds better than any competitor.

Could have given the RE 650 twins some competition with such a spec! But with a 250cc single - I really have no hope.

PS: Looks like Benelli is trying to be aggressive in the market - with the Imperiale 400 slated to launch in India by late October as well.

Just for my understanding. How's a twin cylinder (2x125cc ) 250cc config better than a single of same capacity?. Is it only the looks?.

EDIT : We are talking 2x125cc or 2x250cc parallel twins?.

IMO, its way overpriced. Why would anyone pick Chinese single cylinder mill over RE twins ?

People are referring to the 300 cc engine, used in 300i today. That is a tried and tested engine and sounds very nice. Priced 50K more then it should have been. Would have been a decent launch at 1.99 maybe, at this price it is a very tough sell.

Re: Benelli Leoncino 250 launched at Rs. 2.5 lakh

Benelli before launching a product should review the market condition. When there are better products available in the market like Dominar, RE Interceptor,D390 that too at much better VFM tag and decent ASS network. A 250 cc single at 2.65 OTR that too from a brand whose service and parts availability is notorious. It is high time that Benelli should, in a competitive market like India, concentrate on two aspects:

1. Launch a fully loaded quarter liter twin at an affordable pricing.
2. Improve their service network along with parts availability.

Re: Benelli Leoncino 250 launched at Rs. 2.5 lakh

Atrocious pricing for a 250cc bike with power figures similar to that of a 200cc bike. I was expecting an onroad price of around 2 lakhs.

Re: Benelli Leoncino 250 launched at Rs. 2.5 lakh

Benelli needs to realize that as a brand they don't have an aspirational value. BMW could not sell overpriced G310 twins, with BMW brand, what hope does a brand like benelli has to sell the bikes at these prices.

The new owners have been better then DSK, but they are still expecting wonders from a brand whose roots are more chinese then italian. People are comparing 500cc version with Interceptor, and here they are trying to launch 250CC at almost the price of interceptor.

DOA.
