All new vehicles delivered from now on will get this as their home charger.
Some of the major changes that this brings about
:
1. The scooter become lighter by 3.5 kilos as the on-board charger in the vehicle is removed. Less weight will traslate to better Range too.
Old vehicles can charge with this charger, but new vehicles can't charge with old home charger (Public chargers will remain same and doesn't make any difference to any as it is DC charging)
2. People had a complaint that the earlier home charger (that looks like a character from starwars) was a big attention seeker and it is an easy target for mischief mongers. Some have even covered it with a wooden box with lock to secure it. Another complaint which I can also vouch for is that the green light is an irritant during night time (especially in individual houses where it is close to some window or something). Both of these are solved by the new charger the dull grey and smaller form factor blends well with walls and the light indication is very small
3. This is very easy to install it seems by any electricians or we can do it ourselves unlike the previous one which only a trained guy could install. Hence they've made the installation chargeable. I feel it is still better to get it done by Ather guys themselves as they are experienced, neat and fast at installing this.
4. The portable charger will now be bigger as it has to house the AC-DC converter (because there is no on board charger in the scooter) and a cooling fan too. The older one was very similar to a laptop charger
5. As per Ather's data, home chargers were more used for overnight charging and 1 hour increase in 0-100% charging time will not affect much.
6. Ather also says that this new Dot is less sensitive to Earthing issues

Installation of Ather Dot costs Rs. 1,800. This includes GST, standard installation, consumables and labour charges. The unit comes with a user manual for easy installation.

I read it as the end of the introductory offer where we guys got free installation of the point.

it doesn't charge always at at peak rate. The Battery is 2.4 Kwh and it consumes 2.4 units for a full charge.

Pretty weird to state the 80% time, when a full charge takes just 45 minutes more. Usually, companies brag about xxx % charge in "60 minutes" or so. What's the point of saying we get to 80% in 4.5 hours? Who brags about 4.5 hours???

The old Charging unit that I have used to charge faster (around 2.5 hours) till 0-80% and then slowly from there on till full charge (80-100% used to take another 2 hours). Hence it was differentiated. But now if you see, the 0-80% is slower than 80-100%. 0-80% charging is 2 hours slower than before. It will disappoint a person waiting to get just enough charge to reach his/her destination (previously the time in which a person used to get full charge gets him only 80% now). But in most of the cases, people charge overnight for full charge and there it is an hour's difference.
