re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

Seems to be a recurring problem when the vehicle is subjected to longer adventure type of riding, can't make out if this is a result of heavier abuse and overload or something else? But having said that whatever be the cause, it is very concerning and should be addressed ASAP. One of my friend is actually thinking about reinforcing the chassis (like what folks do for Offroad competition vehicle). Since he is planning on a ride across India :(

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

Why am I not surprised to read this.

This is such a crappy bike from RE that it is practically useless for the purpose it is devised and sold.
A single trip on this to Leh was enough for me to realize what junk RE has come up with.

@Jaggu - Suggest your friend that a KTM or Bajaj Dominar or there is one from Mahindra, I am forgetting the name that would be better than this.

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

Looks like stress concentration crack. They have to thoroughly review the frame fabrication process especially welding.

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

Did RE miss to do the FEA analysis of the chassis? . From the pictures it seems that too much weight ( Travel bags?) was put on the tank, and yes some serious off-roading was done.

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

This exact same incident has been discussed in very far technical detail over on the Himalayan thread a few weeks back.

Its a box section with no reinforcements. A round section is stronger. Latter himalayans have started arriving with ugly reinforcements on the box section.

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

The Himalayan is a crappy bike without doubt. I have been stranded on the highway at night because of loose wiring connectors; the one behind the instrument panel / ignition slot.
It failed twice more during that trip and made me keep a safe distance from the Himalayan even while walking past it in the parking lot.
I don't have any reason to doubt these collapsed frame incidents. And funnily enough, someone is talking about overload on the tank. Laughable.

When I saw the new thread I presumed reference was to the latest case, here are screen caps from the video.

Rider is safe though he did tear some gear, still a better alternative

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

I was riding my friend's Himalayan, there is a large speedbreaker which I take at ~30 kmph on my FZ-25, did the same with the Himalayan, its an ADV after all.

The coneset conked off, had to be replaced.

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

It’s an absolute pile of poop. Numerous quality issues, come set issues, knocking from the engine, electrical cut off while riding and now this. The sad thing is it’s fun to ride when everything works, very nice dynamics over bad / no roads . I’m not even gng to bother selling mine , ride it till it breaks and hopefully I won’t break with it

re: Royal Enfield Himalayan - Broken into two pieces

There was actually talk among the local group to proceed legally against RE and compel them to initiate a complete recall and sort the quality issues before re releasing them.

It pisses me of no end that even in 2019, RE is getting away with selling junk like this with nay a concern for rider safety.
