Bajaj would be an interesting case study, counting all the mix match options from Bajaj one would simply be confused at the best almost one more model within every 10 or 20 cc increment if we include older models as well!

60(sunny),100,110,125,135,150,160,180,200,220 and finally 400. Posting exact displacement would actually make the list more complicated, as Discover 150 was actually 144.8cc.

I once got a Bajaj Discover 100, the advertisement said it was a 5 speed, the brochure said it was a 5 speed, even the showroom people told me it was a 5 speed.

A few days after purchase I found the gears to be a tad too long and I counted the number of gears and guess what!

It was a 4 Speed! Silent update Yo!

Any idea what the 'H-Gear' signifies.

I have the Platina 110 Comfortec - 4 gears version sans disc brake. Gives me 60 kmpl in City ( with Pillion for 80% time).

I also wonder if the disc brake can be retrofitted to my bike. At times its scary and not confidence inspiring. Bike does stop but with some drama. My previous bike was a P180 with disc brake. Maybe my habit of braking late needs to change.

a gear shift and gear assist indicator. This not only shows what gear you’re in but also suggests if you should shift up or down for better fuel efficiency. This is showcased on the bike’s all-new semi-digital instrument console, which also displays the tripmeter, odometer and fuel range indicator.

Yeah you can, but a disk brake on a light motorcycle isn't a good idea, the stock drum brakes act as inbuilt-ABS.

Not to mention that it won't be cheap as you'd have to change quite a bit of parts.

If you have a stable front end, I don't see what's the issue. The disk should be able to pull the weight of the motorcycle. Shouldn't be too bigger or too smaller when compared to the compared. My Shogun has a disk setup from Fiero F2. My brother's RX135 5S has one from first gen Pulsar. I'm even planning on fitting a Disk from Passion into my Splendor. I've always found a disk to be more reliable than drums, especially 110mm ones (from CT100 and CD100). The only requirement is that the the disk shouldn't be large enough for the motorcycles's weight and the front end should be stable. Platina here has the disk from Disc from Discover 100M, I think. Used it for quite some months in 2015. It has great feedback and sufficient stopping power over a drum.

A disc setup is convenient for many reasons but you have to take into consideration the tires available for these machines and their weight bias, a disk setup might fare well when it comes to regular use but not so much when it comes to panic braking.

I have Masseters on my P220 and Apollo ActiZip on my CT100B, hence know the difference, and for a fair comparison I've also ridden a fellow enthusiasts RX100 with front disk, definitely not something I'd want to grab a handful of.

P.S. The disk setup that comes OEM on small commuters aren't that effective as the ones that come on larger machines, but still, I'd prefer to stick with drums, personal choice.

When I first saw the heading, I thought they would have provided a much taller top gear. Unfortunately its only a gimmick. A tall gear would have worked out well for a small bike tourer like @ashwinprakas . What say?

The final over-drive of all motorcycles irrespective of displacement and number of gears would be at about 0.8~0.9:1, unless its a RE in which case there is no over-drive as the final gear would have a 1:1 ratio.

Unless its an RE it doesn't make any point adding another over-drive as the load would simply be too much to overcome on a commuter and there would be undue load to the crank which would take a chip at the reliability factor these machines are known for.

On Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu highways there were times when I couldn't ride my CT100B in 4th(final) gear due to the wind resistance and had to scream at 70kmph in 3rd gear cuddling with the rev-ceiling(no-rev limiter) to keep moving forward, same goes when riding up aggressive ascends, or even when riding in Kerala rains.

The puny motor simply doesn't have enough oomph to overcome the load, even on stock gearing.
