Guess the day when I'd finally own a Yamaha is closer than I'd expected it to be! clap:

BTW That's the Yamaha XTZ 125, its a carburetted 125cc motorcycle.

Yamaha XTZ 125.

Looks like the perfect little go-anywhere machine for people who live near trails.

But with the 125cc motor, this will remain a niche segment - not the ~250cc Impulse replacement that majority think is the sweet spot.

Mod Note: XTZ125 posts moved to a new thread!

This is the perfect trailie bike! And a Yamaha! Finally the japs are hopefully getting in onto the action! Woo-hoo!

Serrated pegs, center stand, this means business!

And this looks absolutely production ready!

Good job Yamaha, all we ever asked for was an even more under-powered Impulse

Seriously though, this is a 15 year old motorcycle, and is quite popular in several markets as a farm bike.

Sharing the commercial from Yamaha Philippines: https://youtu.be/eP4udc2Po-s

Note how most of the video is sped up, well I wonder if the 125cc engine had anything to say about that :D

:uncontrol you hit the nail! I was wondering if this makes the Hero Impulse look good and you summed it up in a few words. We always seem to get the new launches in extremes in the adventure or dual category - something you can't afford / is crazy priced / is too much for our conditions or something that is unknown / underpowered!

How hard is it to get a decently powerful and an all purpose dual sport to India? The KTM 390 adventure that will launch when am 50 I guess is the perfect bike we all want but can't have.

Thank god for the V-Strom that now gives company to Versys else we had just one pony to place all our bets. Alas not everyone can afford to spend 8lacs.

While some are looking at it and going 'yuck', at least AP and I are 'Yay'

With the advs catching fire in the ultra-premium segment, there's certainly a desirability factor around an affordable bike you can take off-road. Those who want more power need to also look at the policies and the lack of affordable, beginner trail-friendly bikes. A sub-125 can conform to the laws without ABS, which is a serious cost advantage in this segment.

Even if I owned a bigger ADV, I'd like to have something like this in my garage. Something I can thrash on the trails without worrying about expensive repairs. Bikes like these will also enable youngsters to get a taste of dual-sport bikes and the skills they learn on such bikes will help them better exploit the bigger ADVs once they upgrade. It can also survive with the xpulse without creating a product overlap.

First the VVT R15 V3 and now this! Slowly, but steadily, Yamaha is capturing my mindshare.

What makes me sad is that some websites had reported Yamaha Lander XTZ 250 being caught testing back in Sept 2015, and I was so excited for weeks and then nothing happened. Now, here we are more than three years later with a 125cc.

This bike will be expensive as compared to regular 150cc bike along with its spares.:deadhorse

Wait till the launch & official bike specs.

Some mouth watering specs -

Minimum ground clearance - 260mm.
Wet weight (with oil & a full fuel tank) - 118kg.
21 inch front tyres, 18 rear.
180mm suspension travel front and rear.

And some questionable ones -

Seat height - 840mm (May be an issue to most riders)
12.5PS @ 8,000rpm. (Not for highways.)

Lets group buy or rent an isuzu pick up, load a few of these bikes and head to rana's farm for the weekend for trail bashing and camping.

I'm IN!

If it is modern enough that it also comes with dual-channel ABS brakes, has a tachometer & 55w (preferably dual projector) headlamps, the seat is at least as tall as the Impulse, the engine is frugal enough to give 60kmpl in the city and maybe more on highways and the Bangalore on-road price is south of 85,000₹, yamaha may have my money! Their bikes are reliably built and unlike Hero Moto Corp, Yamaha actually keeps spares for all vehicles. I couldn't care less about a beefier engine because the I ride under 50kph most of the time and the real features are outside the engine.

Yamaha testing an upcoming model with no camouflage and MH-14 registration doesn't sound right to me at least. Yamaha test bikes are usually registered in UP or TN. More like Bajaj doing a benchmark for one of their future adventure models.

More reason to be happy as the motor on the YTZ125 is the same one seen on the YBR125 a.k.a Gladiator a.k.a SS125.

A perfect square block with bore*stroke at 54*54 mm translates to an even delivery of torque and power.

Red-line started at 9.5k RPM's and the Tacho of the SS125 showed numbers as high as 13,000 RPM's, which was one of its USP's at the time. :D
