Tyres have currently done just shy of 11000 kms and still have a decent amount of tread left. They are also 4.5 yrs old. The change is more due to their age.

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

Hello fellow riders,

I have a query, if not a bit of a nitpick.

So once a month or so, i clean and lube my chain, and then take the by to the nearby wash centre where it is pressure washed, soaped, dried and polished. It has become a sort of a ritual for me. Now my question is when the washers apply the pressurized water jet, does it wash away the lube that I have just applied? so does it make better sense to apply the lube after the bike has been washed?

What do you guys do, and what do you folks think make more sense?

Thanks in advance for the insights.

Yes. Best to get the bike cleaned, then the chain cleaned and lubed at the washing centre itself (they help)

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

Hi everyone, just got a call from my service center (Bommasandra Motors) saying that the rear brake master cylinder has failed on my one year old bone stock CGT. I am not surprised since I knew the rear brake stopped working a day ago.

What has me confused is that they are saying that the part is not covered by warranty and I'll need to pay for it. Does that sound right? I can understand that Brake pads would not be covered, but the master cylinder? If the breaking system is not covered by warranty then I'm wondering what I paid the 5 year warranty for.

By the way the rear pads are fine since I barely use them.

Need - Better cushioned seat.
I've clocked 18,500kms on the stock seat My bum deserved something better. I'm the flag bearer of custom seats and had good experience with my Classic 350 seat, I was ready to go down this route!

Could you please share the shop location, i have been looking at modifying my classic 350 seat for a while now.
Also, if you wouldn't mind sharing the cost, it would give me an idea since i am a little clueless.

Cheers.

I hope this question was for me. This shop is located in Hadapsar, opposite the South Gate of Magarpatta City. Here is the location. I spend two thousand bucks on this mod. I could have easily bargained it down to a couple of hundreds less but I didn't as I was happy with the job!

Happy riding,

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

Recently acquired a 2019 Interceptor 650. It has been heavily modified, and I'll take the barkbusters, the windscreen, the handlebar raiser, and that big touring seat off in favour of something with a lower profile. I like my bikes small.

Strange thing is, previous owner went through the pain to add all these accessories, but it is missing the sump guard. I feel very dumb for overlooking this, but the rest of the bike is in such immaculate condition that I didn't notice the missing sump guard.

Can 16000kms and 4 years of usage without a sump guard affect the engine or frame in any way?

Sensible mods, not heavily customized. I'd suggest you rework the existing seat to your rear end's requirement - head to Rao Seats in Shivajinagar. Your seat looks comfortable but not the best looking, that said, you can't really have both - the stock bench seat looks great but it is a torture device - which is why I said you can't have both - looks and comfort with these seats OR you could shell out 6K and pick up the new dual touring seat and see if that works for you, however it does not offer any lumbar support like your existing seat does.

No, unless the previous owner has been riding offroad, going jumps and climbing footpaths, rocks etc.

We'll finally got it honoured. But the cost was me leaving the bike there for a week and not picking it up until they honour the warranty. What is unfortunate is that unless one creates a fuss sometimes certain people do not do what they are supposed to be doing. The part IS covered under warranty so why be difficult?

Re: Ridden: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 & Continental GT 650 Twin

Royal Enfield has silently launched an accessory touring screen for the Inty and GT at INR 4750 and listed the same under Genuine motorcycle accessories.

Whoever are interested to order, the part number is 1990479.

When the Interceptor was launched, my first thought was "If you always wanted a RD 350 and couldn't get one, just get an Interceptor.

Yes, I got myself an Interceptor 650 Black Ray.
Congratulations. I see that you are from Margao. I'm also from Margao. Not seen you riding.

For some time I even evaluated getting a second hand low run Interceptor
This is exactly what I plan to do within a few months. In fact I just checked out one yesterday.

Which bank and what interest rate did you get?

Pros:
- Cheaper to buy
- Available almost immediately
- Gives you a bigger budget to buy riding gear/modify
- The depreciation doesnt bite as much if you decide to sell at a later date

Cons:
- Need to research to find an unabused example
- Chances of warranty running out
- Most used interceptors usually have tires at the end of their run cycle
Agree 100% with your points. There are a lot of unabused examples in the market.

AEW makes the best looking exhausts for the Interceptor. However I wish someone came up with straight exhausts like the RD350.

I didn't quite get this calculation. A new Interceptor with Alloys costs around 4.19L (Almost 4 L for the spoked version). A lot of used bikes are in the market with sellers quoting between 2.85 - 3.35 L for bikes done less than 20K kms, some as low as 7K kms. I'm guessing the final selling price will be 2.3-2.5L. I saw one bike yesterday done under 7K kms (2019 model) and he was quoting 2.75 L. He said he had an offer of 2.5 L. Probably he had offers closer to 2L and his realistic expectation was 2.5 L. The IDV on the insurance which is expiring on 30th December was 1.85L. After renewal it will come down further.
I feel a used bike is definitely worth it. I'm keeping my eyes open for one.

That just indicates the direction of rotation. There should be another arrow in the opposite direction with Front written on it. I recently fitted Michelin Pilot Street 2 tyres on my Ather and this was the case. Which model of Michelin are you referring to? Sirac?

It's ravishing red, we already settled on a price of 1.8L just by looking at olx photos. But felt sad when I saw it physically. Owner bought it, did 14k kms on it, seems to have serviced it properly and has left it uncovered in a parking lot for long time. I made a few observations, however I need other Interceptor owners opinion to proceed any further.

What you said mostly seem to be cosmetic changes, but as a person who has been around a lot of royal Enfield's I have to let you know these buggers have some or the other hidden issues in them. Interceptor while being an amazing bike has had a record of mechanical issues. I obviously cannot comment on whether you should get it or not, but I can say this that Enfield's require care and attention and if you do go for this then you better be ready to have a few trips to the mechanic

I am the second owner and the previous owner had fitted MRF(front+rear) before selling the bike. So Vredestein tyres are much better compared to the MRFs.

The previous MRF tyres were the exact spec required for the INT650, but the front tyre got 'Rear' mentioned on it. I believe those tyres are meant for another bike rear which uses same spec as the INT650 front tyres. No all fixed with Vredestein tyres along with new allow wheels.

Be grateful for having bought an interceptor for 1.8L. They don't come so cheap. Agreed the bike is all humped up, but it wouldn't hurt to carry out a few DIY steps.

1. Brake levers and handle bar ends come cheap. Can be replaced easily. You'd be better off with aftermarket adjustable levers cuz the clutch is tight.

2. Get a big tube of Autosol and a buffing drill to get rid of the oxidation. You may have to remove the tank so you could remove the head casing so that it can be buffed effectively.

3. Stickers, wrap, repaint or get a new tank. Choose which option you'd feel satisfied with.

4. Irregular handlebar movement is an indication of faulty cone set. You may also want to check handlebar stoppers or any cables hindering the movement. A bent fork may also be the reason but since it's evident visually, I don't think it would be. Also check for handlebar wobbles. Nobody has understood the myth of it.

5. Brake rotor needs to your first priority. Changing both brake pads goes without saying.

6. While starting the bike, your engine idling at 1500 rpm is normal only if it settles down to 1200-1300rpm after a few seconds. Idk but I'm feeling you should get the cams and valve timings checked.

Again be grateful that owner is getting the bike serviced. I feel sorry that the owner has to lose such a beautiful bike for 1.8L and God knows what service costs.
