According to a media report, Suzuki is planning to launch the Gixxer 250 in India sometime next year. The 250cc bike will be developed specifically for the Indian market and will be positioned above the current Gixxer 150.



It is rumoured that Suzuki might offer the Gixxer 250 as a naked street bike initially, while a fully faired version could be introduced at a later date.

The upcoming Gixxer 250 is expected to be offered with a 250cc, single-cylinder engine. It might employ an oil-cooler instead of the more expensive liquid-cooling system. Power output is likely to be in the same range as its rivals. There is no word yet about the transmission that will be offered on this bike. It is also rumoured to get a dual-channel ABS setup.

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 will compete with the Yamaha FZ25, KTM Duke 250 and the likes in the Indian market.

Looks good, but it would be interesting to see where Suzuki positions the Gixxer 250. FZ25 ABS is priced competitively, but it is the only 250 that sells in numbers.

Hopefully, they are not looking at a CKD route. With its Chinese origin and the higher price tag, it would be no match against the KTMs in the premium price range.

Interesting, another rumor I saw elsewhere on the net showed fairings like the fully faired GSXR.
That aside, I hope they make the pillion seat more flat. At least like the one on the FZ25. A bike in India has a different requirement than in the west, it is a family vehicle.

The headlight appears to be more along the lines of the hawkish Suzuki GSX S1000F. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

From what I've heard, it's an India-specific product.

So a single cylinder engine does indeed seem more likely, as opposed to the parallel twin of the GSX 250R.

It's bit of a bummer though, since Kawasaki has owned that spot since 2010.

Rumour has it, they're redesigning their showrooms for the launch. Looks like they're really banking on the the 250.

Some of the bits I read on Rushlane is that

1. It's a fully faired version
2. Output is around 26 bhp
3. Rushlane speculates price - says it's nice if they price it around 1.5L etc. Not sure Suzuki will even think of such a low price.

Please add one more line - Single Cylinder & that's it... dear Suzuki India, welcome to 2011 or even if its twin, we can welcome them to 2009

What's the potential USP that Suzuki's 250 has got then? Anyway being a speculation from Rushlane, let's wait & see what they've got

I think they'll find a sweet spot between the FZ25 and the Duke 250. They're going to have to keep the price competitive.

Probably the only notable exception has been the "Hayabusa"

Or the Inazuma as well. Anyone who has ridden it says it was a fantastic bike priced wrongly.

Perhaps Sales Duds (never mind how fantastic it might have been to ride) like the Inazuma prevents Suzuki from being adventurous.

Just look at the 150 cc Gixxer, the inspiration from the Yamaha FZ16 is clearly visible.
