2018 Honda CB Hornet 160R launched at Rs. 84,675

Honda had showcased the 2018 CB Hornet 160R at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The bike has now been launched in India and is available in four variants with prices starting from Rs. 84,675.

The CB Hornet 160R is based on a diamond type frame. The bike measures 2,041 mm in overall length, 783 mm in width and 1,091 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 1,346 mm and it comes with a 12-litre fuel tank. The kerb weight of the bike ranges from 138 kg to 141 kg depending on the variant.

For 2018, Honda has updated the CB Hornet 160R with a full-LED headlight similar to the X-Blade which was launched earlier this month. The cowl now houses a full digital instrument cluster with a blue back light, while the rear features an X-shaped LED tail light. Besides, a new hazard switch also been added. The bike now comes with redesigned graphics, new 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels and the exhaust muffler is finished in matte black with a grey heat shield.

The 2018 CB Hornet 160R is powered by a 162.71 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that delivers 14.9 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 14.5 Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission. It has conventional telescopic forks in the front and a monoshock suspension in the rear. Braking is handled by a single 276 mm petal type disc in the front with either a 130 mm drum or 220 petal type disc brake in the rear. Single channel ABS is offered as an option.

Variant-wise ex-showroom prices of the CB Hornet 160R:

STD - Rs. 84,675
CBS - Rs. 89,175
ABS STD - Rs. 90,175
ABS DLX - Rs. 92,675

Possibly, the DLX has rear disc instead of drum

The offering seems value for money with both front and rear disc brakes, it is available below 1 Lac price point.

The engine is quite peppy and the machine can be used for both city as well as highway runs. Looks are equally eye catching I must say.

A worthy competitor in its segment.

I don't think the 'STD' & 'DLX' have anything to do with the ABS - rather, they would be for other parts of the trim. In car terms, it's like a 'VXi with ABS' and 'ZXi with ABS'.

Its indeed the addition of rear disc brake in DLX.

Deducing from above posted information,
ABS STD has rear drums, with Single channel ABS (Only for front).

ABS DLX has rear discs, with Dual channel ABS.

I think both versions have only single channel ABS for the front. The rear is normal drum or normal disc without ABS

Is there any benefit of the rear disk brake in such a scenario? Wouldn't it be wise to have the rear brake as drum as most of the stopping happens because of front wheels and save a few 1000 rs. Also rear disc break without ABS, might increase probability of the rear wheel locking.

True to a large extent. Trade-off between cost and safety. Dual channel will obviously cost more. I think the Pulsar RS200 has single channel ABS.

Brings me to another question. Have you heard of any ABS retrofit being possible. ABS is something I would have loved to have in my Bonnie, at least a single channel one for the front. The bite from the front is fantastic and can shed speed like crazy but the nagging fear of locking the wheel in emergencies is a nightmare.

Can someone please shed light if this new CB Hornet 160R has fuel injection or it still uses a carb for fuel supply?

Thank you SoumenD for that info. I am wondering why didn't Honda go for Fuel Injection. How much the price would have increased? I really love the petal discs of the Hornet and now with single channel ABS I was really looking forward to get one soon. However no FI is such a downer. I think I will now have to wait till Yamaha equips the FZ25 with ABS.

Looks a good value for the money. I'm passively searching for a bike in 150 -200cc range with ABS (single or dual) , disc brakes and ~1L budget. This one almost suits all the requirements and under the budget. But not a big fan of the Hornet's styling.
