Bajaj Avenger Street 180 launched at Rs. 83,475

According to a recent media report, Bajaj could launch the Avenger Street 180 in the coming weeks. Rumours suggest that the Avenger Street 180 will be priced at Rs. 83,987 (ex-showroom, Bangalore).

Currently, Bajaj offers 3 variants of the Avenger - Cruise 220, Street 220 and Street 150. The new variant will be positioned below the Street 220 and is rumoured to replace the Street 150. It is also reported that Bajaj may not offer a Cruise 180 version. Styling is likely to be similar to the Street 150 with the engine, crankcase and alloy wheels painted black. Also, it might get analogue dials instead of a digital instrument cluster.

The Avenger Street 180 is expected to be powered by the same 178.6 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is offered on the Pulsar 180. It produces 16.79 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 14.22 Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The Avenger Street 180 will be offered with a disc brake in the front and a drum setup in the rear. However, it might miss out on ABS.

The Bajaj Avenger Street 180 will compete with the Suzuki Intruder 150 in the Indian market.

Bajaj Avenger Street 180 launched at Rs. 83,475

Bajaj has launched a 180cc version of its Avenger Street cruiser bike at a price of Rs. 83,475 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The Avenger Street 180 replaces the Street 150.

The Avenger Street 180 measures 2,210 mm in overall length, 806 mm in width and 1,070 mm in height. The wheelbase of the bike is 1,480 mm and it has a ground clearance of 169 mm. The bike weighs 150 kg (kerb weight) and comes with a 13-litre fuel tank.

Like the 2018 Street 220 and Cruise 220 which were launched last month, the Street 180 gets the redesigned headlamp with an integrated LED DRL, while a black translucent visor wraps around a single-pod instrument cluster. The bike comes with new graphics and the engine, crankcase and exhaust are painted in black. The Street series comes with black 12-spoke alloy wheels and telescopic front suspension with rubber gaiters. The rear features a rubberized grab handle and twin shock absorbers, which Bajaj claims have 12% more travel than the previous models.

The new Avenger Street 180 is powered by a 180cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled DTS-i engine that produces 15.2 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and 13.7 Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike rides on 17-inch and 15-inch wheels in the front and rear respectively. Brakes come in the form of a 260 mm front disc and a 130 mm drum in the rear.

Still no ABS. Not even as an option?

Also, I'm glad that these street series comes with matt black panel on the fuel tank instead of the chrome ones they used to have earlier. That was the most annoying thing on the bike. While riding under the sun, it used to really reflect the rays right into the riders eyes.

Bajaj goes full circle once again.

I remember the original Avenger was a 180cc, which was later replaced with 220. 150 was launched later and now they are again back to 180!

Not the first time they are doing it. Needs to seriously rethink their strategy and have better long term plans. IMO- This 180 launch is just a knee-jerk reaction to the interest shown by the mass market towards the Intruder 150 - which they have undercut significantly now w.r.t pricing.

I thought that ABS is mandatory from this April. What is the point in skipping safety features. The same goes with Royal Enfield as well, that too when they are exporting Classic 500 with Euro4 compliance.

Also the rear I understand is still drum brake.

For all existing bikes >125cc currently available in the market, mandatory ABS kicks in April 2019 . For all new bike models launched after April 2018, its mandatory then. So they still have more than a year.

There was a 200cc as well.

So in this order 180- 200- 220- 150/220- 180/220- Next 373cc?

A lot will depend on the positioning of the TVS Zepellin - which might get the RR310 engine. That could really bring the segment alive!

Bajaj can only respond with another variant of the Avenger, and going by Dominar pricing - this one could be a lot more VFM.

I'm looking forward to the launch as well.

But online portals hints a 2Q 2019 launch. And I read on multiple websites that it might come with a 220 cc variant.

Anyway, it is a refreshing change to the design from the typical cruiser style, Avenger, erstwhile Enticer, Intruder (not sure if I should call it a cruiser though) we see on the road.

The Auto Expo variant had a 220cc engine coupled with a mid electric boost and belt drive. Unlikely to make it to production.

Anyways, fingers crossed.

I think, in future it will be custom, made to order.
You can express the cubic capacity of your choice which buying, and the guy at the Lathe will simply bore out the cylinder accordingly.

This kind of antics is what precisely led to the downfall of the Discover!
While other manufacturers change graphics every six months, Bajaj changes cubic capacities every two quarters.

Nah!!! That's HERO's forte specially 100cc one using the same 97.xx cc splendor/passion engine. Remember this? And what a caption

Not sure if you could call Avenger a cruiser or not, but what I have seen of it in our biking days(2007-12) it used to be a comfortable mile-muncher. I remember girls in our group used to take turns to sit pillion on the avengers as it was sofa-like & hence high-on-demand
