Nice looking bike with good features but lacking ABS and rear disc brake. Probably, Honda rushed the launch to avoid the mandatory ABS stipulation which comes into effect from 1.4.2018. The LED headlamp is a good addition. I may have to wait for the Hornet 160 which is expected to come with ABS and rear disc brake.

The Honda X-Blade is based on the same chassis as the CB Hornet 160R, however in terms of pricing, it slots below the latter. The bike measures 2,013 mm in length, 786 mm in width and 1,115 mm in height while its wheelbase is 1,347 mm. The bike weighs 140 kg and comes with a 12-litre fuel tank.

The X-Blade comes equipped with a full LED headlamp setup with position lamp at the bottom, a full LED tail light and a digital instrument cluster. It has dual-tone bodywork and split rear grab handle. It gets conventional telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear. The bike rides on 5-spoke alloy wheels finished in black.

The X-Blade is powered by a 162.71 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 13.93 BHP @ 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.9 Nm @ 6,000 rpm and comes paired with a 5-speed transmission. Braking is handled by a 276 mm petal type disc at the front and a 130 mm drum at the rear.

The Honda X-Blade is available in 5 colour options - Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, Matte Frozen Silver Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Pearl Igneous Black and Matte Marshal Green Metallic.

Here is the Zigwheels review of the X-Blade. The bike looks smashing to say the least. However, Honda has been stingy on equipment and that's why it is cheaper than Hornet 160. A stylish no nonsense commuter by Honda.

Re: Honda XBlade 160 : Brief Review | 3.5 Years Up

The Need:

Back in 2019 I started my first job as IT Professional and after a few months of office commutes on my beloved Shogun & Splendor, I decided to look for something newer, long lasting & sported recent hardware and at the same time was hassle free and economical.

I have been using this bike for almost 3.5 years and the experience is mostly hassle free and this bike has been greatly reliable commuter and occassional tourer, especially during COVID and WFH days. It sits between the Honda CB Unicorn and the CB Hornet 160R, while trying to be a chimera of sorts and that is where it loses out on, attempting to be the jack of all trades and master of none. Best ridden in the Urban Jungle, especially if you live in a Metro.

Shortlisted Bikes: Rs 1 Lakh Budget
  • Pulsar 150 Neon
  • Pulsar 125
  • Hero Glamour
  • Suzuki Gixxer 155 Carb

With the above money in hand, I started searching for bikes in the price bracket and requirements were simple:
  • Front Disc (no optional)
  • 45-50kmpl average economy
  • Optional ABS
  • Long & Wider Seat
  • Good Headlight Visibility
  • Carb, no Fi.

What you'll like:
  • Sharp, stylish, ergonomically designed, futuristic impression styled persona and commanding road presence.
  • Decent quality stock tyres, MRF Zappers offer good grip compared to other OEM fittings in the same segment. No issues of skid, drifting or any falls yet.
  • Wide and Long Seat.
  • Engine Refinement, low and mid range torque.
  • Great Fuel Efficiency in City & Highways.
  • The impressive throw from the Robo-face LED Headlamp.
  • Instrumentation (Console, Switchgear etc).
  • Sharp Bite from the Brakes.
  • High Speed Stability.
  • Easy maintenance & excellent after-sales & service.
  • Factory Fit Hazard Lights and Gear Position Indicator.

What you'll dislike:
  • Wooden feel of the Front Brake Lever.
  • Stiff Rear Suspension, even at the softest setting.
  • Tight space leverage and maneuverability, thanks to the flat handlebar.
  • Rear Set Foot Pegs and the committed rider's triangle.
  • Skinny Front Tyre (in the interest of FE) and lack of the Frontend feel.

Ending the post with some parting shots of my bike. Full blown ownership review coming soon.
