2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) will soon launch a new Activa 4G gearless scooter in the country, which has recently been spotted at a dealer stockyard. It is expected to come with Auto Headlamp On (AHO) and a BS IV compliant engine.

The overall design of the Activa 4G is similar to the currently on-sale Activa 3G. Spy shots indicate that the headlamp switch is missing from the handlebars. This points towards the presence of AHO function with the new scooter. It also gets a new '4G' sticker on the side panel.

Specification details about the new Activa 4G haven’t been revealed yet. However, it is expected to come with the same 109.2 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is found on the current Activa. However, the engine will be tweaked a bit to make it compliant with BS IV emission norms.

Honda had earlier updated the Activa 125 with AHO and BS IV compliant engine. The government has made it mandatory for all two wheelers on sale in the country to come with Auto Headlamp On and BS IV engines from April 2017.

Many thanks.

Just wanted to understand the reason of making AHO mandatory in two wheelers? I am not sure if this is an international best practice.

It is not there in several premium bikes too, also not present in all the four wheelers.

Would be interesting to get the basis of making this mandatory.

It is indeed a best practice with many countries having enforced this rule. I believe some superbikes have had AHO since a long time.

Having your headlamps on - even during the day - greatly increases your visibility & presence to others. Simple example = in my cars IRVM, a two-wheeler on my right will be a lot more visible with his headlamp on. Also helps at junctions and so on.

For over 5 years now, when I drive my car on the highway, I always keep the low beam on (during the day). A handful of places (EU, Canada etc.) have made DRLS (daytime-running-lights) mandatory on cars for the same reason.

Does this new Activa get fuel injection too?

Nope, does not get fuel injection. Just some tweaks to the existing engine should make it BS4 compliant so I dont see why Honda would spend money on FI.

re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

Just a bit confused with the AHO, I initially thought it was Auto headlamp on, but it actually looks like All time headlamp on! Though its a good feature and may be the norm in other countries, considering the volume of 2 wheelers we have it sure will be a fancy sight during the day, and given the fact most parts of the country remains extra bright throughout the year I doubt the benefits this feature may bring!

Not to mention the rural crowd is going berserk for sure atleast for the first few months running behind all the bikes trying to get the riders to switch off the light!

I usually drive with my fog/kerb light on while, and its amazing to see so many people get bothered by that light.

re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

The average road users in our country are perturbed by the sight of headlamp on during daytime and side stand on the two wheeler, however when the same set of folks drive and ride their vehicles with high beam, they will not be bothered about road safety of others. I don't know, how someone can miss the basic sense of driving on high beam.

As far as AHO goes, even the new REs which are BSIV compliant comes with this feature. We already had issues with the battery of RE and now imagine when it's on for full day what will be the consequences. But, having said that it's a masterstroke and GTO had already mentioned, the visibility is bound to get a boost.

re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

Honda has launched the Activa 4G in India at a price of Rs. 50,730 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The government has made it mandatory that all the two wheelers in the country should come with the Auto Headlamp On (AHO) feature and BS IV compliant engines from April 2017. In accordance with the rules, the Activa 4G now gets both. The scooter also gets a couple of feature additions which include a mobile charging socket and a retractable front hook. The overall design is similar to the outgoing Activa 3G, except for a minor tweak on the front center cover and a 4G sticker on the side panel.

The Activa 4G continues to be powered by the same 109 cc engine from the 3G which makes 8 BHP @ 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm @ 5,500 rpm, although it has been tweaked to meet the BS IV emission norms. Two body colours have been added to the existing palette. The scooter now comes in 7 paint options - Matt Selene Silver Metallic, Matte Axis Grey Metallic, Trance Blue Metallic, Imperial Red Metallic, Black, Pearl Amazing White and Majestic Brown Metallic.

Re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

I have been keeping my bikes headlamps on from few years, it makes a huge difference.
I have seen a lot of cars with slightly tinted glass in the rear make way when the headlamps are on compared to when they are off. However AHO is a fancy abbreviation and not a new technology, they have removed the headlight on/off switch and retaining the low and and high beam switcher.

Re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

Now, i will see thousands of two wheelers plying on public roads with their High Beam ON during day time. Most of the aam aadmi doesn't even know that there is a separate switch for High-Low Beam selection & it is mandatory to ride with only Low beam on city limits. Its going to be a total nuisance in my opinion, given the Indian conditions especially in the cities.

This is pretty insignificant but the 4G seems to have the small orange reflectors on either sides of the front tyre.

My 3G doesn't have them. Wonder if that's also one of the requirements laid down by the Govt.

Activa 125 has those reflectors, carried over to Activa 4G now.

Re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

The Activa gets a mobile charging port in the under-seat storage space. Quite a nifty feature; I think a bunch of other bikes already have it.

Confused by the placement though: given all the advertised (but debunked?) "dangers" of having an active mobile phone while filling fuel, is the presence of the phone right next to the petrol tank prudent?

Re: 2017 Honda Activa 4G : Launched at Rs. 50,730

Got a quote for the activa 4G in Pune; I was given a price of 65,800 (on road) for the 4G and a price of 75,500(on road) for the Activa 125.
Our family has been an 'Activa' user for the past 12 years so I am sure of buying one of these; but I'm not able to make up my mind. Any suggestions on which one to go for - the primary user will be my wife who will be using it for a daily commute of 32 kms.
Still haven't taken a test drive yet, Hopefully I'll be able to decide once I take a test drive.

OT: Wow! An Activa for 75k!

Prices seem to have gone up over last year; in June '16, I got my 3G for 62k, 125 at that time was for 68k.
