Anyone know how long the waiting period is for the '17 D390 in B'lore?

A few posts ago on this same thread, a fellow member quoted 3 months. The last I spoke to KTM Marathahalli, they were promising delivery by April end. With latest hike in road tax which has pushed the prices to the north of Rs. 2.83L, 390 is at the verge of tripping over it's VFM tag.

My comment is more localized to the state of affairs here in Karnataka. Prior to the tax hike, the same bike was a little over Rs.2.68L.

In my case I have a feeling my sales rep has relegated me to his May quota.

Congrats to you guys who already got your bikes! Ride safe!

Saw an interesting video uploaded on youtube which talks about issues that the first lot of owners are facing, like console going dark and headlights going off etc. Hopefully these are just one off issues

Interesting observations, ECU failure looks like a real bad one. I could see your bike was not starting, how do you fix it?

Ah ok, but this definitely seems to be a bad one. Maybe you power off everything and wait for a couple of minutes and then it starts, but overall can be a deal breaker.

I am sure KTM will fix it with a software update.

Oh my my. And they say Indian manufacturers like RE are bad. Come on KTM, these issue would have popped up on test mules for sure. Wonder how they didn't sort these out before the launch. I was closely following the 390 and was about to test ride it and book it. Now I have changed my mind completely till the issue are sorted.

Re: 2017 KTM 390 Duke, 250 Duke and 200 Duke launched in India

I have been eagerly following the new Duke 390. Went for a test drive and was convinced it was a more mature product from the brand. Have strongly recommended the bike to a friend of mine who is looking to buy his first ride.

Recently we were updated that some dealers have bought old BS3 stock of the 390 Duke and are now selling it at around 1.6 lakh rupees. This has got us convinced we should buy the old one. I mean it is essentially the same levels of outright performance without the TFT display, swanky headlight, better refinement and the new more sophisticated front forks (they will be missed).

I am sure these minor niggles with the ECU, headlight and display will be fixed with software updates from KTM but considering its dynamic package hasn't improved save for the front forks, 1.6 lakhs for the old model seems too sweet a deal to pass up on. My friend is a shorter guy as well so he would have no difficulty on the saddle of the old 390. Does anyone know if this news is accurate, or if I am missing anything here?

Duke 390 is one hell of a beast. Don't want to discourage you or your friend but I suggest not to choose the Duke 390 as his FIRST ride. That's too much of power for a first ride.
I would recommend to start with 150cc segment. If you guys are adamant about getting a KTM, I strongly recommend to get a Duke 200 instead of 250/390.

I understand where you are coming from but I feel it all depends on the rider and how well you are able to modulate the throttle.

I learnt how to ride on a rental FZ16 and got bored of it within a month, test rode several bikes and finally bought an RC390 5 months after learning how to ride and I don't regret the decision at all. It has been a little over a year now since I bought the bike and it still keeps me engaged and learning. My friend has never owned a bike but learnt how to ride several years before I did on his dad's Thunderbird. So he should be fine too.

Honestly a 150cc bike makes sense only for commuting according to me since you get bored of the performance on offer pretty soon thus I feel it is a waste of money to buy a new 150cc bike unless it is for someone who has a very anxious riding style, the kind that panics and presses brake and accelerator together types

I think you've been living under a rock.
RE is a British company and KTM is an Austrian company in which Bajaj has a majority stake.
Local manufacturing in India doesn't make them an India company.

RE is most certainly no longer a British company. The British Royal Enfield closed its doors almost 50 years ago in 1970. The present iteration of RE is an Indian company and subsidiary of Eicher motors, though they have made foreign acquisitions like the UK-based Harris performance.

That said, I have read that the 390 series exports (all 390s are manufactured in India) are inspected in Austria before being delivered to dealerships. Looks like that extra measure is not a privilege available in the Indian market.
