2020 Yamaha FZ25 And FZS 25 use the same 249 cc single-cylinder engine developing 20.8 PS maximum power and 20.1 Nm torque.

The 2020 Yamaha FZS 25 will be retailed in three different colour options such as White Vermillion introduced in the BSVI MT-15, Patina Green and Dark Matt Blue.

The 2020 Yamaha FZ25 and FZS 25 will feature bi-functional LED headlamp and LED Daytime Running Lights as common but the FZS 25 gets noteworthy additions such as a taller windshield and knuckle guards.

In isolation the Yamaha twins look very well priced for what they are offering but the Dominar 250 just 3k away from FZS 25 makes things very very interesting. Gixxer is substantially better and expensive, Duke has a different market, Ideally even Dominar and FZ do not look like competitors but the pricing is eerily close.

I think, with this pricing the FZ/FZS25 is dead in the water and it is significantly higher than the BS4.

In Bombay the price for the FZS25 is only Rs.11K less than the Gixxer 250 which is Rs.168K and which has 30% more power and a far better technical spec and the promise of as good or even better build quality.

I don't see the Dominar 250 as a direct competitor but the price gap there is also small.

Yamaha needs to do a radical rethink on the pricing, a premium of Rs.30-35K over the FZSFI which is at Rs.103K is probably right and the maximum that they can charge and make a success of the product

Not happy with the BS6 update. I see no reason for anybody to pick this up over the superior Gixxer 250, unless on a very tight budget which cannot be extended any further. Wish Yamaha had kept the design changes subtle; those golden wheels look borderline gaudy to my eyes.

The FZ25 lacks the tech and sophistication that customers expect in this price range. I thought they would introduce the much-requested 6th cog atleast this time around.

I haven't ridden either of these bikes, so my opinion is based on facts alone. But I see myself as a potential shopper in this segment by next year, and the FZ25 in it's current state would not be my pick.

I have the 2019 Yamaha FZ25 ABS. It's fun to ride in the city, never felt the need for more power to be honest. Adequate is the right word. Good torque in the low end & mid range.
For touring, look elsewhere. Although it is happy to sit at 100-110 kmph all day, the lack of 6th gear meaning the revs are super high at such speeds with good amount of vibrations on the handle bar, pegs & seat. It is by no means uncomfortable, but there are better options out there with a slight increase in budget. Also the instrument cluster only shows either time/odo/trip a/trip b with no gear indicator, this is not really a deal breaker.

I am happy that I had purchased the last gen, as I wouldn't purchase this version even in my dreams. I strongly dislike the headlamp design & I seriously doubt if it will ever grow on me with time. Also at the base price of ₹1,52,900 is just shy of ₹7,000 from Dominar 250, which makes me wonder if it's a right choice even being a Yamaha. Also I had purchased mine at ₹1,34,650 on 08/03/2019 (There may have been a price hike in BS-4 avatar itself). But an increase of over ₹15,000 for BS-6 & that headlamp is ridiculous in my opinion.

Agreed with you, and just now as I am checking the price difference in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

FZS25 - Rs. 1,57,100
Gixxer 250 - Rs. 166,444

Difference is Rs. 9,344, has Suzuki just done a price cut as I remember Gixxer being close to 1.7L sometime back ?.

It really is no brainer now to go for Gixxer 250 in this segment, it is almost same weight, has one extra cog, could be a better built vehicle also.

Too expensive now. I would recommend the Gixxer 250 over this bike anyday. Similar weight but higher power, extra cog, more features etc. But just for my understanding why is the bajaj dominar 250 being considered better? It's the heaviest 250cc bike in the world probably and that hinders everything. If the Gixxer wasn't there and all I had to choose was between the fz25 and the Dominar I don't think I would go for the Dominar.

I have heard of Royal Enfield planning a 250cc motorcycle so Dominar 250 may soon loose that mantle

Dominar 250 is essentially 90% Dominar 400 body with a smaller engine. That means you get the touring biased setup.

The whole load of luggage system options of Dominar 400 will as per my understanding be straight fit for 250 as well.

Dominar is at least one size bigger that Gixxer and most likely more pillion friendly as well.

Liquid cooling for those who prefer it.

I will not say that Dominar 250 is a better bike than FZ25, as I said above they are bikes made for different direction but the price gap or rather lack of it is making things tasty. As per my memory FZ25 used to be the cheapest 250cc bike in India by a good margin (dare I say it's USP), it still is the cheapest but that margin is ice-thin now and sadly it looks like FZ25/FZS25 is not in a position to justify this lack of margin.

What was once a VFM is now no more. There are much better bikes overall within Rs.10k reach of the FZ25.

On the other hand, many 2-wheelers are now neither VFM nor affordable post the BS6 updates. Can't imagine myself buying a 125cc at Rs.90k and 150cc at Rs.1.2L.

But I can't fathom, why there is a multi-fold price increase for bikes that were designed keeping BS6 in mind (e.g. Dominar 400, RE Himalayan etc).
