And Siddy, seems like your question has been answered (and my prayers)
KTM has increased the overall torque figures by 2-NM (this ofcourse doesn't change your previous anticipation of the change in torque curve and my willful concession to it). Just that more torque is always welcome. Price increase is expected in vicinity of Rs.20k which should translate to a Bangalore OTR of Rs.2.51L (approx).

Re: 2017 KTM Duke unveiled at EICMA 2016

Just when I thought that this bike was better than it's predecessor in every perceivable manner, KTM had to put in a kink there. What on earth is a seat height of 830mm doing on Street Naked !! It nearly barges into Versys-650 (and that's an ADV/Soft off-roader with long travel suspension) territory which has a seat height of 840mm. To give you a perspective, these are the different seat heights of other available bikes in our market (in no particular order or genre, just random samples)

1. KTM Duke 200 ==> 810mm
2. Pulsar 220F ==> 795mm
3. Yamaha R3 ==> 780mm
4. Pulsar 200NS ==> 805mm
5. RE Thunderbird ==> 775mm
6. Triump Street Triple ==> 800mm
7. Beneli TNT 300 ==> 795mm
8. Hero Impulse ==> 835mm

I really hope Bajaj comes to rescue of whole lot of us on the shorter side.

All the new changes are pointing to a new ADV version - increased seat height, ground clearance, bigger tank, better shockers and looks like more comfortable seat!

Second that. I am 5ft5 and the increased seat height is surely a concern for me. I mean a concern enough not to purchase the machine. I am currently using first gen R15.

+1 to that. I'm 5'4 and not that well built. The increased seat height and weight most certainly be a make or break situation for me. Only a test ride can tell now.

I wouldn't have had second thoughts what to buy if BMW G310 had slipper clutch (provided that they launch in first half of 2017). I feel G310 would offer better riding comfort, smoother engine and premium build quality. But nothing is certain till a test ride I guess.

Re: 2017 KTM Duke unveiled at EICMA 2016

Hello Guys,

Check out the video in the attached link. I don’t know if this video was previewed during unveil ceremony but it details the 2107 Duke 390 completely and following points are noteworthy.

Link:

http://www.ibtimes.co.in/2017-ktm-39...january-706960

1. Exhaust Note: The bike now has a deep exhaust note, many of us will consider that as a yay from the current ‘auto rickshaw’ exhaust.

2. Canyon carver: 2016 Duke390 was light as it is and thus the amazing flickering abilities but apparently added weight in the bike due to side mounted exhausted system has not diminished the said ability.

3. TFT console: That console system looks marvelous and reminds of the older brother 1290 duke.

4. Other Features: Pillion grab rail is below the pillion seat, ride-by-wire system and LED head lamps are again inspired from 1290 duke.

With Dominar set to launch on 15-12-2016, I believe, KTM needs to launch 2017 Duke 390 (In India) at the earliest. Fingers crossed!

Agree, noticed the same on a test mule today morning. Exhaust sound isn't that loud anymore. It was accompanied by a Dominar as well.

Re: 2017 KTM Duke unveiled at EICMA 2016

Heads up guys,

New exhaust video of 2017 Duke 390 is uploaded by IAB. In the video, actual bike is not seen hence the credibility of video is in question.

OT: 2017 KTM RC 2017 is also aunched at New York-IMS at $5,499 (Rs. 3,70,000)

I was under the impression that both KTM series (RC and Duke) are being built from the scratch but apparantly for RC 390, apart from few mechanical upgrades, I see mainly cosmetic changes.

Re: 2017 KTM Duke unveiled at EICMA 2016

Seems like KTM is also preparing themselves for the launch of 2017 Duke 390. With the brilliant initial reviews of the Dominar400. Bajaj seems to have hit that sweet spot where the segment dominated by KTM is again challenged.

Quote:
The new generation KTM Duke 390 made its global debut at the 2016 EICMA show last month. To be launched in Europe first, the new gen Duke 390 will arrive in India by March 2017. Ahead of that, the bike continues to undergo road test in India.

Re: 2017 KTM Duke unveiled at EICMA 2016

Happened to stroll into a KTM dealer near me. Updates from the dealer on the Dukes were:
1. Launch of the new Dukes in February
2. They (the dealers) have been invited to Pune in the first week of Feb. for unveiling of the bike and a demonstration of the features etc.
3. For the Duke 390, an expected price increase of Rs 20K over the previous model (very similar to the price increases of the new KTM RCs)
4. Bookings are now open for the new Dukes (at least by the dealer I talked to) : a booking amount of Rs 20k (refundable) is being sought.
5. The old Dukes and the new Dukes are expected to be available alongside for some time (at least through Feb. to allow stock clearance)

On a slighlty off-topic, the divorce between KTM-Bajaj and Kawasaki is through. The dealer said that KTM wants their showroom to be catering exclusively to KTM bikes alone (which hopefully means that KTM will bring the Adventure 390 and the Duke 790 to our shores as fast as they can!)

Bajaj has a controlling stake there, so it's Bajaj who wants it. Basically, Kawasaki has no future in this relation anymore. Good that they are moving out.

Yes, things will get very interesting from KTM now. Bajaj has always been at the forefront to bring affordable performance bikes to the Indian market. They should be bringing the 390 adventure sooner rather than later. Kawasaki has the X300 as well, but there is no hope for it against KTM pricing.

Re: 2017 KTM Duke unveiled at EICMA 2016

The updated seat height of new D390 is a huge turn off for me. I am 5ft5. I think the height was increased by 20mm to 830. Although why on an urban Street model is difficult to understand. May be that changes the seating dynamics but that makes it more oriented towards Europe and America than Indian/Asian market. You can clearly see on the test bike the rider is having difficulty flat footing.
