I guess CL is treading safe waters and wanted to do a pulse check on the bike with the Customers interest. Now that, it garnered the eyeballs, it is getting into action, albeit slowly.

CL- if you are listening, please stop being one-sided and pull up your socks!!

Re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

I visited the Ultimate motors - Jawa Dealer in Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai. There was one display bike of Jawa classic, one TD bike of 42 and one display vehicle of a restored old jawa. There was a small queue for TD of the 42

The Sales guys asked me to wait to take a look at the 42 but were not keen to figure out if I am a genuine customer, nor there were brochures available. When inquired, he said that
a) There is a wait list of 8 months max
b) Both single and dual channel ABS options are available
c) Was not keen on taking my contact details to pursue the lead

I did not bother to take a test ride now considering the long waiting period but noticed that
a) Fit and finish are nice
b) The vehicle is very close to the original Jawa (parked side by side)
c) Engine sounded nice but not as the same as the original (expected)
d) The slot for the ignition key was in the side (typical fork lock locations)

I was put off by the wait time apart from the lack of interest from the sales team but anyway I am in no hurry

Jawa was revved couple of times , it sounded good . Please note that I am not familiar with the old / original bike’s sound. I liked the fit and finish and the paint job on both bikes . There were weld marks on odd places , but not noticeable on plain sight .Couldn’t find provision for leg/crash guard. There seemed to have a provision for backrest though .Both the display bikes didn’t have a back rest.

Sales guy mentioned those were preproduction models and the final version would have everything included . He had no clue on the crash guard though . Test rides to start after a week or so once the formalities with RTO are over. Sales guys were enthusiastically taking down contact details of prospective customers. The guy I spoke to took down my booking details and promised to call back once test drives commence.

The showroom had a good retro feel and the first floor is planned for accessories. They are yet to put those on display . He mentioned helmets , jackets , back rests etc are on offer.I plan to visit again once they setup the shop properly to check out the bike and accessories.

The bike was heavier than I expected and the sitting position was comfortable . Over all , I am very satisfied with what I saw .

Ps : Missed Anupam by half an hour , I wanted to meet and greet him

Kochi showroom is getting ready in Edapally. No information on inauguration. It's near Edapally toll and Pathadippalam.

HI RG thank you for the update. Am also awaiting a call from the Trivandrum showroom. Me and my brother booked a Jawa 42 and then later online upgraded to the dual channel ABS model which made it pushed to the delivery in June i guess. So will need to check with them on the actual time for delivery.

Did they mention on the tax and registration charges which will be on top of the price advertised?

Thanks & regards,
Jay

I didn't check the on-road price with them. From what I got to know, the RTO formalities are yet to be done. I too have booked a 42 online , which I later updated to a dual channel one.

I plan to visit the showroom once they settle down and will check on the delivery related details.

The "Czech" 4 Stroke engine is actually a Chinese iteration of a Honda, see for yourself;

Quote:
The new Jawa 350 OHC is a mix of old and new generation of style and performance. As per Jawa Czech Republic website, powering the 2017 Jawa 350 OHC is an air-cooled single-cylinder motor from Chinese manufacturer Shineray, itself a derivation of an older Honda.

So.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but basically you're cancelling your booking because the motorcycle is powered by an Indian motor that has spent at least half a decade in the R&D Department before seeing daylight, rather than it being a Chinese replica of a Honda?

Strange, but then again, different strokes for different folks.

Ride Safe,
A.P.

When Jawa was announced , the speculations about 350 being brought to Indian shores were going around in social media. I was disappointed to learn about the Chinese origin and the old Honda engine for that model. Good that you pointed it out.

I am more curious about the decade long R&D you mentioned with your post . That is something I wanted to know about the current engine and couldn’t find any info on. Are you referring to the Mojo’s engine ?From my limited knowledge and understanding, the work on the new Jawa started around 2016 and I always wanted to know the extend to which the current engine was tested etc.

Any light on that subject would be helpful.

The statement about half a decade of R&D was with reference to the Mojo.

The current motor on the Jawa has the exact same bore*stroke configuration as the one on the Mojo at 76*65mm bringing displacement to the same 294.87cc's, the only difference being the state of tune of fueling which explains the variance in power output.

What is the origin of the Mojo engine? Is it in-house or Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese? Just curious about it's pedigree.
