Re: Benelli 302

curious, is this even from India? I see a lot of other bikes and even one of those large trikes in the background. Also the Yamaha R25 next to it indicates it must be from Thailand or Malaysia? Actually interested in this bike's launch as currently the only options in the 300cc sport tourer category are the Yamaha R3 and Ninja 300. I heard this one is going to come with a lot of suspension adjustment options so that ought to appeal to the person looking for a fully faired sporty tourer.

Re: Benelli 302

Probably Malaysia. That second pic indicates the name of the dealership as some MOTOR ENTERPRISE SDN BHD.

Thank you Athek for sharing this info here

If it does turn out to be true, 4.25Lks ORT Bangalore must be a decent price IMO. But then again, I think the Tornado makes lesser BHP than the TNT, and also has to contend with a fair bit of extra weight.

So how does the current TNT pan out:

Benelli TNT 300 - INR 3,94 Lks
37.73 bhp @ 11,500 rpm
26.50 Nm @ 10,000 rpm
Kerb Weight - 196 Kgs

Bangalore OTR prices for Tornado 302's competition:

Yamaha R3 - INR 4,12 Lks
41.40 bhp @ 10,750 rpm
29.60 Nm @ 9,000 rpm
Kerb Weight - 169 Kgs

Ninja 300 - INR 4,49 Lks
39 bhp @ 11,000 rpm
27 Nm @ 10,000 rpm
Kerb Weight - 172 Kgs

I have also heard that Benelli bikes are notoriously expensive to maintain. So, the Tornado 302 has a 'Cyclone' to compete against.

P.S - I am not even taking the RC 390 here as it just could care less if the Benelli come up with a Tornado or Typhoon!!

Your analysis is spot on, and the reason i am guessing a 4.25 price was with the thought process that probably they would want to keep the price in between the R3 and N3.

Not sure if they plan to introduce the bike with ABS, because if they do, it will be a big positive as both R3 and N3 is missing ABS.

I feel like 4.25 is still really steep, but if people are spending that kind of money on R3s and Ninjas, perhaps it is okay. I doubt the Tornado will make less power, infact I think it will be making more power might be a different state of tune. Either way, up there in the 4 lakh category, both the R3 and Ninja300 are more like sport tourers and I guess the R3 offers the best performance which I doubt the Benelli would be able to cope up with, but what it does have is very interesting and very useful suspension adjustment options. If there's one thing I yearn for after owning my RC390 for a bit more than a year now, it is more adjustment options other than pre-load. Bikes are so visceral and suspension tweekings can make a huge difference to composure under various styles of riding. Oh how I wish there was something cheaper than Ohlins shocks for my bike.

re: Benelli Tornado 302 spotted testing. EDIT: Now launched @ 3.48 lakhs

Not sure about the most powerful part, but if the TNT is any indication - this would be the best sounding machine in that segment for sure.

re: Benelli Tornado 302 spotted testing. EDIT: Now launched @ 3.48 lakhs

Launched at a price of 3.48 lacs Ex Showroom (In Pune)

ABS is a standard, so this automatically makes it a better choice then R3 or Ninja for people who are looking at additional safety features. The drive ability and reliability is a different question all together. The service interval is also very short.

Upside down fork is also an added advantage compared to competition.

Over all i think it's a good package, and has the potential to challenge the established brands, let's see how it all pans out.

4 Year Unlimited Warranty

re: Benelli Tornado 302 spotted testing. EDIT: Now launched @ 3.48 lakhs

With the suspension adjustment options this bike inherently seems like a better option for those in the market for an expensive sport bike that one can also tour on comfortably over long distances and varied road surfaces, but with a 4 year unlimited kilometer warranty it now means even the extremely nervous folk who would rather go for a Yamaha or Kawi based solely on reliability, have less reason to fear buying the Benelli. I mean 4 year unlimited kilometer warranty is even better than some car manufacturers in India, and cars have a lot more parts and less stressed motors, so that's quite something. Also the addition of ABS means that no one has to feel scared and go for it. Metzelers are also a way more grippy option to the IRCs on the Kawi and MRFs on the R3. Looks like Benelli knew exactly who their competition would be and they certainly do seem to have done whatever they can, because this bike seems like far more value for money than the R3 or N300 now; adjustable suspension, ABS, Metzelers, and that beautiful almost V-Twin sounding exhaust with so much more depth and character than most other parallel twin cyl motorcycles. Can't wait to ride one It looks exceptionally hot in that silver and green combination.

re: Benelli Tornado 302 spotted testing. EDIT: Now launched @ 3.48 lakhs

Unfortunately, the launch happens at a time when there are big question marks raised about the financial stability of the DSK group in India. With reports of Toyota Service centres operated by DSK shutting down, not sure what would be the future of a brand like Benelli promoted by the group.

However, as a product - the Tornado looks like a tempting choice compared to the Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki N300.

This might well force Yamaha to bring R3 with abs when it relaunches.
