WOW! I have also opted for the same colour combination in my RX100 restoration. Please throw some light on rear shocks (shock absorbers). My pampered spine is crying hoarse for shocker upgrade Moreover, how is the RD350 handle bar faring as compared to OEM handlebar?

Thank you Rajeev. Selling a bike like a Yamaha RX is actually regretful. I did go through it twice before and thats the reason why last i made upy mind that I will not sell it. It's difficult (and expensive) to get hold of a good one today.

Thanks Jeroen, yes I have seen some of the RXs with too much of fancy modifications - some do look good. But most look very horrid. I wanted mine to have a clean and stock look. A little bit modified too (but period modifications) - and that's why the RD handlebar.

Thanks daredemon, the drums are not as reliable as the discs that i had earlier. But considering the power (and my weight) - they do a good job

Hello blueblooded, please do share some pics of your build, would love to see it. The SnS shocks are actually good - i found them more comfortable than the Gabriel ones. The RD handlebar is a bit lower and pulled back - so on full turns they may touch your legs. But you can always adjust it the way you want. Do try them out - they Re available at most bike parts shop and cost just 350-400 bucks.

Re: Yamaha RX100: Retro-Modern modifications (back to stock)

Here is my RX100 I owned during College days (around 1987).
I had a blast with it!

The sticker on my petrol-tank says 'As a matter of fact I DO own the road'

Re: Yamaha RX100: Retro-Modern modifications (back to stock)

Manim, that's such a sweet picture. Pretty much captures the 100cc Indian biking scene of the 80s - Honda CD100, Yamaha RX100 and Ind Suzuki AX100. Do any of the bikes still exist?

I do have plans to start a collection of the motorcycles I grew around with in the 80s and 90s. Especially the 100cc 2 strokes like the Suzuki trio and the Kawasaki KB. Obviously my dream would be an RD - but it's now beyond my reach.

If you actually look carefully, the original RX King series (which was sold in South America) had the tank design like the Ind Suzuki AX100.

Lovely RX100! I just sold mine 2 weeks ago, and oddly enough, I don’t miss it!

Hey Boniver, any specific reason for selling the RX? And if i am not mistaken, is the other bike a Suzuki Samurai?

Re: Yamaha RX100: Retro-Modern modifications (back to stock)

Hi V12,

I have acquired an RX135 4 speed in the month of July 2022 from gentleman working in banking sector. As per the records i am the 5th owner. I havent got the chance to ride long distance yet as it was rainy season and now i am at work (out of india) past 2 months. The bike is choking after speed of 60. After checking with 2 different mechanics, found out that the carb is of RX100 and also of Mikarb. I had sourced a mikuni carb (4TL01) from one person thru FB Marketplace, but that didnt work either, the issue is still there.

I didn't get the time to check & diagnose the issue further. As of now i have got another used carb which i am going to clean & install after i go home maybe in a month or 2.

Just love the way the bike pulls, only the choking issue is a bummer. Have planned lot of parts to be replaced (handle bar, carb, reed valve, etc are the main ones). Disc setuo is also on my mind, but when i checked for a new gladiator setup, the price quoted by one seller was 16k which i feel is not worth. I am still trying to look for a used disc setup (gladiator or pulsar) within a budget (around 4-5k max).

Waiting to get back home and ride the beauty.
Cosmetically she is not in good shape. My main motto is to get her choking issue resolved and later on plan for any cosmetic upgrades.

Hi V12,
Here are the pics of my bike which was put up by previous owner.
I haven't taken any current pictures.

Since i took the bike, i have changed engine oil, repaired the oil pump (which i believe is still leaking, have to check out once i go back home), New kick lever, 2T oil, all 4 indicator set, flute in silencer, tank & side panel monogram (not original), speedometer bracket, new rear tyre 3.00/18Name: Screenshot_2022_0628_182938.jpg

The other bike is a Suzuki Max100 (same engine and mechanicals as the Samurai, just different body panels).

The RX just didn’t feel special to me, atleast not as much as the Suzuki (which was my first “own” motorcycle). I owned the RX for 10 months, during which I rode it for exactly 15 kms. 5kms out of those were on a petrol pump run, the only time I filled that bike’s tank. I bought that bike as scrap, hand carried parts for it from Bangalore, built it up myself at home, but every time I had to go on a ride, my hands would automatically reach out for the keys to the Suzuki. In the same 10 months, I rode the Suzuki for more than 5,000 kms.

In the end, it made more sense to sell off the RX than letting it sit in my garage just for the sake of owing a “legend”.

I would suggest to show it to some experts and get them checked. Have been reading good reviews about YC Designs and many others too. Do check this link - OE RX135 reed valve is now available in Yamaha spare part outlets.

For the disc setup, you could try sourcing a used one from Kurla CST Road or better still can pick up a scrap Gladiator and salvage the forks and disc setup.

Nice looking RX daredemon. My previous RX looked very similar when it converter it to stock from a Cafe Racer.

The first motorcycle is always special - no matter how many other motorcycles you encounter in your life. I am looking forward to get my Suzuki Samurai soon (although i would have preferred a Shaolin or a Shogun). Where do you source parts for your Samurai?

I will defenetily try to go to Kurla CST market and hunt for the disc setup.
In daylight the bike doesn't look that great from my point of view. It needs a fresh coat of paint specially on the engine. Thanks for the link. I have bought some original spares from Two Stroke Legends (Instagram) including Reed Valve. Trying to keep whatever parts i can in spare and use them when i plan to restore the entire bike . Waiting to get home and start working on my RX to fix the Carburetor and see if the problem gets solved.

Re: Yamaha RX100: Retro-Modern modifications (back to stock)

It's been almost 2 years since the RX was restored. Nothing much has changed but I am using it regularly (atleast twice a week) to keep it running. It goes through a basic service once in a year since my running is not much.

Not sure but I came across some period luggage rack which i wanted to install on the AX100. Since it was not a straight fit, I installed it on the RX.
