Hero Splendor iSmart 110 launched at Rs. 53,300

Hero MotoCorp has launched the Splendor iSmart 110 in India, at prices starting from Rs. 53,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is the first product in Hero's portfolio to be fully in-house designed and developed, after the company parted ways with Honda in 2010. The iSmart 110 was previously showcased at this year's Delhi Auto Expo. The new Splendor takes multiple inputs from the company’s R&D team from the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The Splendor iSmart 110 is built on an all-new frame, which is designed to optimize rigidity, durability and agility. Powering the bike is a new 110 cc TOD (torque on demand) engine. This air-cooled engine also comes with Hero's patented i3S (Idle-Start-Stop) technology, which automatically cuts off fuel supply and shuts down the engine when the bike is stationary for more than 10 seconds. As a result, it increases fuel economy of the bike, especially in stop-go city traffic. Interestingly, the said engine is BS-IV compliant, making it the only bike to offer a BS-IV engine in its segment.

Talking about the numbers, the Splendor iSmart's 110 cc engine is capable of generating 9 BHP @ 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm @ 5,500 rpm. Though Hero hasn't revealed the official fuel economy figures of the Splendor iSmart, the company claims that their new bike is 6% more efficient and 9% more powerful than other Splendor models.

Aesthetically, the new Splendor gets new graphics, dual tone mirrors, new trapezoidal headlamp, a sharper tail lamp, and a chrome tipped exhaust. Features on offer with the new Hero Splendor iSmart 110 include automatic headlamp on (AHO), part analog part digital instrument cluster, service due indicator, and a new muffler.

Exactly. But if we ARE dumb, and they keep selling these bikes though this Brand, good on them! Makes perfect business sense.

Hero needs to think fresh and innovate... there are faint (but sure) signs of the Splendor magic wearing off slowly. The nemesis appears to be the Humble ACTIVA Jaggernaut

The Activa "Family" has been beating the Splendor "Family" in monthly sales for the better part of the last 12 months.

Can anyone tell me if this is the new Hero engine which they were developing in house? If yes- this launch should be the headlines in tomorrow's papers. If not- yawn ho hum.

At the same event, Pawan Munjal, chairman of Hero MotoCorp emphasized on the positive monsoon effects that market is likely to see in H2'16.

As the market size is going to increase, Hero aggressively plans to launch about a dozen of new models and variants in 9 months. This will also include the launch of 125cc scooter aimed eating the market share of Activa. It foresees its scooter segment market share increase by 2-3% from 16.5% as of today.

Lets hope that these upgrades / variants are more than sticker jobs, fancy colors.

Month on month, the Activa beats the Splendor.
Considering that the Splendor sells in atleast 7 variants, customer confusion is high. Splendor had an exceptional "Fill It, Shut it, Forget It" aura. However, as you have correctly said, that is on the wane.
There are worthy competitors to the splendor in Shine, Yuva, Star Sports.Discover and even the recently launched V. The Activas and Jupiters pose a different threat altogether.
With availability of easy finance and nominal EMI differential, even the rural folks dont mind upgrading from the 97 cc mills to say a 125/150 cc engine.
The higher displacement bikes would also churn out decent FE figures.

With no distinguishing USP, Hero magic is on a wane. Quick resurrection within the company with some fresh thought is required at the HO now!!!

LOL. Don't see that happening.

But can see the Splendor slowly fading away with time.

Automatic Scooters (ACTIVA) have been rapidly replacing the 100 cc commuter (SPLENDOR/PASSION and its variants) and its clearly evident now for all to see.

Demand for Commuter Motorcycles, especially the 100-125 cc ones would continue to sell from the semi urban, rural markets though.
