Oh dear! the pictures in this thread time traveled me to that era and made it alive.

I can see it transform into a Cheetah, my '89 model KB, this color only and on way to and fro school be racing my friends on their IND-Suzuki & RX-100.

Please for the love of 80s kids do not change the decal sir ! It just won't look and make us reminisce about the iconic KB. Please !.

Though the decal doesnt have the golden border on the colors, it still looks like the original KB100

Thanks Condor, Wangdu for the feedback. You wont believe how confused I am right now. I am still in 2 minds on 3 things :
  • Wine Red with the original decals
  • Cherry Red with original decals
  • Cherry Red with different decals

I was also looking at the decal options from the KH125 and the GTO models - but didnt like any of them.

Wine Red with original decals will give you a balance of original look and a new shade. And I too think the Wine Red was better looking than the Cherry Red. A big part of the idea of a KB100 is the original looks - we are trying to keep the legacy alive. Suggest, please dont go for different decals.

Re: Homecoming! 1990 Kawasaki KB100 RTZ

I have a 1990 KB100 RTZ, Jet Black, which I haven't used for a long time. I would like to restore, get FC etc and to start reusing it. I live in bangalore. Any idea on how to proceed?

Restoration can be done - find a good 2-stroke mechanic through references. But FC likely to cost you quite a bit - @300 Rs per month of delay.

Honestly, doesn't look like it needs a restoration. Just get a service done: air filter and fuel filter changed, tank cleaned, carb tuned, replace cables and it should be good to go!

Re: Homecoming! 1990 Kawasaki KB100 RTZ

Work is in progress on my RTZ. Nothing much happened for 3 months due to a leaking tank - due to which i couldn't ride the bike at all. Placed at order for a new tank, but that turned out to be in a worse shape than the original old one.

Anyways, got the old one fixed and will be testing it for leakages on a full tank. Have ridden it for almost 50 kms and there is no sign of leakage. The leakage now seems to be on the front forks due to a broken fork seal.

Got a new set of tyres - Ceat Gripp X3 3.00 x 18 for the rear and Ceat F85 2.75 x 18 for the front.

Thank you Condor, I have decided to keep the original decals. But haven't made up my mind yet on the wine red or cherry red

for the decals.

Reg the tank - ask your mechanic to source one. They are in the business, and know where stuff will be. This is my experience with my KB.

Re: Homecoming! 1990 Kawasaki KB100 RTZ

Wow!

My brother had a Rich Wine Red KB 100 RTZ purchased in 1988 (if I remember correctly). It belonged to the last registration series before all the registrations switched to the current KL-XX series. I was still in school and I can still remember reciting "K-Bajaj KB 100 RTZ" all the time. I have had countless rides on the bike with my brother. This thread brings back some good memories

Please retain the wine red colour. You will never regret after a good polish.

I had one in same colour but sold it long back as I was moving between towns. One of the best instrument cluster on a bike till date

Re: Homecoming! 1990 Kawasaki KB100 RTZ

I reckon you should stick to the original decals to keep it's authenticity intact. Decals from 4S would dilute it's sporty character. However, you can add rubber gaitors for the front forks to improve it's front end look as the 100cc - 135 cc 2 strokers from the 90's had slim looking front end. The gaitors would make it look more muscular (pun intended) IMHO

As a 90s 2-stroking college boy I actually beg to differ. All the serious 2 stroke bikes (till the Shogun methinks) including the RD350 came with naked fork tube inners. The gaiter look took over from the metal dust cover outer tube and was predominantly associated with the 4 stroker mileage commuters. The notable exception being the even older Yezdis.

P.S. Lovely thread! NO 4S decals PLEASE!!! Lol

Re: Homecoming! 1990 Kawasaki KB100 RTZ

Were there two shades of red available originally for the KB 100 RTZ? Although I wrote "Rich Wine Red" in my previous message and it seems stuck in my head, I somehow think my brother's bike had a lighter shade of red. Unfortunately, I don't have any photographs to check it.

EDIT: Had my mother dig up the old photo albums and send this:

The first lot Japanese KB100 (no RTZ) had a different more red red. My school friend had the first lot KB.

Re: Homecoming! 1990 Kawasaki KB100 RTZ

Starry Sky - thank you very much for the pics. RTZ was launched in 1988 without the power box and yours is exactly the same as mine.

Thank you guys for your advise on keeping the original KB100 decals. Although i have changed the color to cherry red(instead of wine red), i have retained the original decals. The RTZ is finally ready now. I have left the engine, fork and chassis untouched.
