VW, would you get a brand new duke considering there's an all new platform launch next year?

Re: KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

Hey Red Liner,

I cannot wait for a future launch. The time wasted to waiting means i am getting older by a year. The current 390 is plenty for the price we pay.

Imagine that i have been riding a Fz6R last 8 months. Yet i am not going to spend heavily on a bike in india till there is sanity over cost.

I was infact a little bit attracted towards Benelli. But at the end of the day the total cost of ownership and resale puts 390 on TOP of the list by a huge margin. And it also makes initial investment very low and in case i want to upgrade the resale is always there. 2017 is a new platform and no one has any clue about how the bike will look, operate and cost.

My top choices are RC390, KTM 390, 600I, 600 GT and Z800. But i can buy 4 390s for that Z800 which makes me wonder why waste so much money. If Z800 was 5L i know it makes sense. On road in chennai is around 8.5L vs 2.25L of 390

Had Yamaha priced their MT-09 like Z800, i would have booked by now !!!. Buggers took the price above 11-12L making it untouchable for some of us dreamers. Interestingly the new Bonneville is attractive and that too the 1200 cc bike. But we are talking 4 times the price. The fun of riding a KTM 390 is still on my fingers and i want to try the RC390 which will anyday on the limited track will probably have better circuit time over the z800s or the 600's.

90% of my usage will be in city. Head says 200, hearts says 390.
Help guys.
PS- My Unicorn still runs like new. It has been trouble free for all these 6years. But now seriously bored of it. And no other suggestions please. Its either one of the dukes, or repainting my Unicorn :P
With the new slipper clutch, D390 is not that bad in city anymore. The only major difference you will feel is heat is definitely more in D390. For city rides as well, if you regularly face huge slow moving traffic jams, it might make sense to go for D200. Else D390 is a far superior package.
There is talk of all new bikes in 2017 but I haven't read any confirmed report from either Bajaj or KTM.

Let me add another perspective to the mix. Rohit has kept his 150cc Unicorn for 6 years and has had no complaints with it. Rohit, if you're the kind of guy who is going to explore the limits of your machine and hone your skills on it, then the 390 is obviously the best buy (infact I am eyeing an RC390 for myself, where most riding will be done in little to no traffic and I have strong intentions to take it to the track). If you have been content riding a 150 for so long, and intend to use the bike mainly for city commutes, it really makes no sense to buy the 390. The 200 is sprightly enough to plant a grin on your face, will be easier to ride on the limit making it more fun, is smoother, doesn't have the same heating issues and will give you better mileage for what I predict will be the same average speed you travel at regardless of which bike you buy.

Re: KTM launches MY2016 Duke 200, Duke 390, RC200 & RC390

I have ridden a D390 extensively in traffic and own a D200. I am more comfortable pushing the D200 in city. To be frank D390 feels way too scary. Both engine feels alive after 5-6k RPM and you wont be able to keep the D390 there because of crazy speeds its capable of. If your usage is more in highways then i will suggest the D390.
The heat is also very annoying in city specially in chennai weather, even with little traffic fan switches on and it gets really hot.

I do agree. For someone coming from unicorn this is a new experience simply because you have never been exposed to this kind of heat ever. And forget pillion. The pillion will be roasted by the time you reach your say work or friends house.

I come from the old cast iron 500. Heat was and will never be new to me. Hence I ever felt the 390 any different than my bulls. And that perspective is important for you.

390 will feel like a stove if you never rode a hot bull before, meaning just unicorn.

Only other advice is 390 is a complete mix bike where cruising in high way is so comfortable. 200 is best for city but those who did get a 390 after a 200 have only felt that it was the right decision and the right thing to start with. So check with those who did upgrade as they can provide you exact feedback. It's been supremely positive only.

KTM RC390 spotted undergoing testing with the side mounted exhaust by a Motorbeam reader.

Okay, so the other thread mentions that another update to the Duke will happen between April and the middle of this year.

I have seen that the model launched in Feb has already come with most of the changes mentioned in page 1 of this thread. Apart from the adjustable levers.

Is that all we are waiting for? Something doesn't add up here... Can someone detangle this?

Thats the article. It could just be testing for European version. Indian version does not come with the side exhaust. The April availability is not going to change.

So what do we get "new" in april? Because again, everything apart from the levers and the side exhausts seem to be there on the versions which are already in the shop floors.

Sorry if I am sounding daft and am not catching on quickly...

I don't think we'll get anything new till the next year when they launch all new redesigned from scratch bikes.

I'm not looking too forward to it as it'll be designed with new, strict Euro norms so it would be quiter, though maybe more powerful (but not in a brutal way) ? It'll lose the underbelly exhaust and looking at the new 890 duke spy shots, it may not even look that radical.

But it's KTM so who knows..

New KTM 390 duke for 2017 spotted! http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/n...90-duke-spied/

Also some interesting news on the proposed 500 twin which now mc news says might not make it! Bummer!

http://www.motorcycle.com/manufactur...spy-shots.html

And a bigger bummer is the 890 might not even be made in India!

Looks too Pulsar-ish in profile (especially that tank). And I'll really miss the underbelly exhaust.

The tank may be the answer we are waiting for. If its even 15l it equates to nice range on this already frugal engine.

If dynamics doesn't change I am ok with the ugly tank as long as range increases.

Exactly my thought. The moment I saw it - it looks like Pulsar.

Seems like the collaboration is exchanging ideas, both ways
