Re: Bajaj CT 100B launched at Rs. 30,990 I think Bajaj missed a trick here by not offering the bike for 29,990/- and advertising it in a big way in local newspapers etc. I believe the common man who aspires to own his first brand new motorcycle will definitely be attracted to a price below the psychological barrier of 30,000/-.
I may be wrong, but since anyway the closest competitor is around 6,000/- more expensive, Bajaj might as well have gone ahead and priced it ridiculously cheap! And these commuter bikes don't need expensive marketing either (as in television ads), as they mostly sell through small retailers in Tier 2 and 3 cities and rural areas.
The inflated fuel efficiency figures (99 kpl, 102 kpl etc) are always swords with twin edges. A few people may buy the bikes initially for the F.E., but if the real-world figures don't come anywhere close (usually they don't), it turns into bad publicity through word-of-mouth, and the product dies a premature death.
For reference, the cheapest motorcycles from other manufacturers go for these prices:
TVS Sport - INR 37000
Yamaha Crux - INR 39000
Hero HF Dawn - INR 40000
Mahindra Centuro - INR 43000
Honda CD110 Dream - INR 44000
Suzuki Hayate - INR 54000
(All prices are ex-showroom rounded off to the nearest thousand). |
