They are going to claim a premium, no doubt. The only question is how much? And whether that premium would be acceptable to their target audience.

By target audience - I'm assuming their sales targets will be much lesser than KTM. And also assuming that the majority of KTM 390 prospects would have an issue with the prices, but that may not necessarily worry BMW.

For comparison, below are the prices of some rivals -

310R -
Dominar 400 - 1.58L.
Apache RR310 - 2.23L
Duke 390 - 2.36L.

310GS -
Himalayan - 1.71L
Versys X300 - 4.69L (with mandatory accessories. Considered highly overpriced)

In my opinion - 2.75L for the 310R and 3.5L for the 310GS is a sweet maximum for claiming premiumness and raking in niche sales.

Even I agree to this. I G310R goes beyond 3L on the road, it will be too costly for the price. I will need to move to some other offering in the market.

I also wonder if BMW is planning to offer LED headlamps in near future. And if they do, could it be retro fitted in the existing bikes that have 55W bulbs.

re: BMW G310R & G310GS launched at Rs. 2.99 - 3.49 lakh

Since the 310cc twins would be sold exclusively through Motorrad stores, I wonder how that will affect the service costs.

AFAIK, BMW Motorrad service costs are on the higher side even when compared to Triumph and Kawasaki. It remains to be seen how this would affect the smaller bikes.

Ideally, I feel Motorrad should have sold the 310cc bikes through exclusive TVS stores for deeper penetration and hence better numbers. Maybe they could have adopted the same erstwhile KTM-Kawasaki philosophy for sales and service of premium TVS bikes plus the Motorrad bikes.

Does anyone has any idea when is the One Nation One Tax being implemented? If that comes into effect before the launch of BMW G310R the on the road price in Bangalore would be lesser than what it would be according to the current taxation.

There is no way "One nation One Tax" is going to be implemented anytime soon. Road Tax is under state's jurisdiction and why would they give that flexibility away ?

You are right. Even I used to think the same. For me, its more about constructing and maintaining state roads for which the state government is responsible. But in April, there was news about the government pushing for One Nation-One Road Tax. Now, although the headlines say its for commercial vehicles, the articles still hint that it may be implemented for personal vehicles too. Following are some links:

https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/grou...hicles-1840075

We as customers can only welcome this move.

Apologies to the mods for discussing about this tax in the forum meant for BMW G310R. It was related to the pricing of the bike and the tax that could have an impact on the same.

3L OTR is not happening IMO, probably a 2.99 ex-showroom as an introductory price, bumped up to 3.25 in 3-4 months of launch.

Apache 310 RR spares costs seem to be on the premium side compared to any other Indian manufacturers. Just had a quick comparo with the Dominar 400 yesterday and realized that most parts costs much higher.

Adding BMW Motorrad premium to this, along with the very high labour charges - this is surely going to be a very expensive motorcycle to maintain - may be even more so than the CKD Ninja 300 and R3.

Yes I saw the spare part prices of the Apache 310RR.

I was really interested to get the G310GS for my younger brother who is just fresh out of college but it seems the G310GS will be a bomb to maintain. In that case, I will have to consider something else.

Information leaks from the KTM camp are simmering with news that the Baby GS will be priced in the nether region of 4.5L on-road Bangalore.

"Gold" Calipers notwithstanding...

Just got a call from one of the showrooms, said it'll be in the range of 3-4 lakhs on-road Mumbai. Bookings will start June 8th and bikes will be available starting July. The "white" color will be priced higher in the GS than the red/grey color.

3-4 lakhs is a wide range. I think the GS versions will be touching 4.

Bangalore should be 4.2 or so to account for additional taxes I guess.

Finally the cheapest BMW one could own in India is ready to be launched. I doubt if this would be any cheaper than 4lacs OTR. Given brand BMW, they would maintain premium image and I would not be surprised if it ends up costing 5lacs on road!. At 3lacs its just 50K premium over KTM and would impact brand BMW.
