Pics: Bajaj to launch new variants of the Avenger

Bajaj is launching three new variants of its only cruiser bike, the Avenger in India this week.
The new Bajaj Avenger is expected to get single cylinder 200cc engine from the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS.
The engine is expected to be retuned to improve the cruising capability of the motorcycle.

Bajaj launched its first Avenger back in 2005. Even after 10 years, there haven’t been any significant visual updates made to the motorcycle. Bajaj, however, gave the motorcycle bigger capacity engines. From 180cc to 200cc and then the 220cc unit (borrowed from the Pulsar 220 sportsbike) in the 2010 Avenger 220. The engine in the current Avenger produces 19.03PS of power and 17.5Nm of torque. Compared to this, the new Avenger will be both more powerful and torquier.

The one in the above pic does not have the Liquid Cooled Engine of the 200NS.

Nope that's NOT a Radiator but the "Oil Cooler" (also present in the Pulsar 220).

Do check out the Fins on the Present on the Cylinder for air cooling.

By the way, got hold of the proper pics:

It seems to be cosmetic change with Alloy Wheels as a new feature.. probably tubeless tyres as well.

My bad. Thanks for the correction buddy. They said 3 variants so I might have caught the lowest variant. I saw a handle bar that was not Bajaj's even the other parts like exhaust can

It's almost clear now that the "variant" would be cosmetic.. maybe with differences in features like alloy wheels.

By the way, reports suggest that the Black /Alloy variant seen in the above pics has been named Avenger "Street"..

.. plans to ride the Harley wave..??

re: Pics: Bajaj to launch new variants of the Avenger

Thankfully Bajaj finally did some changes to this decade old bike.
However, Silencer and as well as the rear grab handle looks out of place in this bike. They look like after market fitment. They should learn a thing or two from Harley on designing a cruiser Motorcycle.

re: Pics: Bajaj to launch new variants of the Avenger

The "cosmetic" changes in the Street version are actually quite practical. Basically they have decided to get rid of most of the chrome plated parts. The chrome gives the bike a classic look but is difficult to maintain in the long run. Alloy wheels and tubeless tyres will of course be useful. The rear grab handle is a bad idea. Pillions love the back rest on the original version.

Will Bajaj be allowed to use the name "Street" since Harley Davidson already sells the "Street 750".

Re: Pics: Bajaj to launch new variants of the Avenger

Glad to see Bajaj paying attention to its only cruiser. I'm still skeptical about this 3 variant proposition though. It was quite annoying when Bajaj did it with the Discover and seemed like range expansion for the sake of it. The cosmetic alterations certainly look good (especially the silver stripe on the front mudguard), but Harley comparisons are inevitable. The overall design looks more like the Street 750 and the wheels look "inspired" by the Superlow. Might be a good idea to steer clear of the ''Street'' name.

I second the thought that the pillion rest was a much better design in the outgoing avenger. Also the stance looks more subtle. Are they planning for a festive launch. Waiting to look at the spec sheet soon.

Re: Pics: Bajaj to launch new variants of the Avenger

Contrary to the popular beliefs the engine does not seem to be from the Pulsar 200 NS (which is derived from Duke 200). On closer observation the engine looks like an air cooled unit with an oil cooler assembly as in the previous Avenger model. I believe the changes are just cosmetic for now. What caught my eye was the alloy wheels and the fork gaiters that have an eerie resemblance to the HD Iron 883/Street 750 models.

Re: Pics: Bajaj to launch new variants of the Avenger

Noticed the side stand in Street is still Chrome - peculiar !! But like the overall looks of street. Especially the alloy wheels look good. No backrest is a -ve though.

But was also hoping Bajaj to upgrade Avenger technology wise as well. I'm certainly picking up a bike (again) soon and was hoping it gets more power and 6th gear to cruise which doesn't seem to be happening. Might as well go with AS200 in that case.
