Re: Delhi/NCR - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Our "Fog mein Kharcha" ride didn't quite live up to it's name as there was absolutely no fog on the Yamuna E-Way and nor did mehuel do the "kharcha".

Winter mornings demand late starts, and hence, we found ourselves finally setting the tone of the ride only by 7:30 AM. The chilly wind made our bones tremble, yet there was no stopping us, as we rode into the sunrise.

Might I mention here that it was our first ride where we had female company. She proved to be an amazing co-rider with absolutely no cribbing or whining and thoroughly gelling with the group. By the time the first round of tea was over, we all had become somewhat like college friends.

While we were enjoying the winter sun in the lawns of the restaurant just before the Jewar toll, various biking groups arrived. One caught our attention, because :

a) It was dominated by Kawasaki Z800s.
b) All of the Zs had after market exhausts and were thus making a huge racket.

We started back for Delhi in lethargic fashion, stopping for photos and chats while maintaining a constant cruising speed. Two Z800s from that very group overtook us in a dangerous way and made an improper comment towards our female co-rider, who was on the last bike and pillion. We got to know of this incident only after reaching home.
I don't know who these two dolts are. But, if you both are reading this post or have a friend-rider who came today and is reading this (and knows both of you), let me certify that you both are a disgrace to the entire motorcycling community and to the spirit of motorcycling. You're not worthy of riding a motorcycle.

Regardless, we all reached home safe and sound and had a fantastic experience. Nothing better than unwinding in the countryside with people who match the same "frequency" as yours!

1. The gents arriving at our meeting spot in Noida codenamed "Golden Star".

2. Riding away in the morning sun. Bliss.

Re: Delhi/NCR - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Another lovely ride with amazing buddies. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of moment since start. Only change was the shades of venus, in otherwise martian territory (at least in our group).
Loved the instant connect, time flew by, lots of gupshup and high doses of positive energy.
Well, as for these fellow Z riders, all i can say is that they need to learn to respect the very core philosophy of morning rides i.e "to keep ones arrogant and non civil noses in non intrusive space".
Minor glitches but overall one more morning very well spent.

Re: Delhi/NCR - Sunday Morning Short Rides

To say this that this ride was brilliant would be quite an understatement. It was full of energy, passion, coordination and excellence. Perhaps our largest gathering, today's ride was comprised of 8 members. Right from a Yamaha R15 to a Ducati Scrambler.

We moved out at 6:20 AM from our meeting point and made slow progress initially. Picked up pace after exiting Delhi and we found mild patches of fog at a few places. The winter sun and yellow fields gave us company to die for.

A couple of months back, me and bhpian Mehuel had ridden to this place but the mere glance of our photos sent our riding circle crazy and everyone was waiting for the perfect moment.

While riding back, we had breakfast at HTDC, Sultanpur. A long tedious day came to an end at around 3 PM.

Some photos attached.

Re: Delhi/NCR - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Keep it up Barcalad, may you take your passion for riding wherever you go; Bangalore's loss has been NCR's gain

BTW, tips on coping with fog while riding is appreciated. Bangalore has been experiencing some heavy fogs lately and the visor condenses in no time and once it gets moist stopping and wiping it off is both a pain and a very temporary measure. Tried riding with the visor slightly cranked open. Have heard of applying toothpaste on the inside of the visor and then wiping it off clean but yet to try it.

Thank you, buddy. Well, I guess until people like Snehal Sekhar, Sojogator and sammyboy are there in Bangalore, the tribe shall always increase.

Here are my few inputs with respect to fog.

For the visor :

1. Buy some Pril Dish Wash cleaner (liquid).
2. Buy 2 soft cloths for wiping.
3. Apply the pril on the outer surface and gently smudge it all over the surface.
4. Apply the pril on the inner surface and do the same as above.
5. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
6. Wipe the outer surface thoroughly with 2nd soft cloth. Don't leave any mark.
7. Wipe the inner surface as said above.
8. Keep the helmet on the balcony/open area with visor lifted for a few minutes.
9. You're good to go now.
10. Repeat every 7-10 days.

For the road :

1. The basic idea of riding in fog is complete concentration. Mark your reference point in the fog. It can either be the focal point on your lane or the white dividing marks on the road.
2. Distance for comfortable braking is the must. Don't tail anyone. If there's a car, just be at a distance so that you can see it's tail lights/flashers vaguely.
3. One of the beauties (horrors?) of riding in fog is that more that you looking in the front, keep your eyes on the RVM for the rear as well. You may brake well. The guy behind you won't. This is what causes pile ups.
4. Never keep your visor down in dense fog. It's harakiri. It'll hurt your eyes but it will save your life.
5. Use only dipper. If your headlights are not adjusted, use only one left side indicator/hazards. Your headlamp can either show you the way or cause more problems. It's the latter, mostly.
6. If you want to stop, park the farthest from the road.
7. Take breaks and anticipate.

Hope that helped!

Re: Delhi/NCR - Sunday Morning Short Rides

Aforementioned ride turned out to be a solo ride as the bare few who has confirmed had last minute engagements. Perils of riding on a Saturday!

I moved out at 5:30 sharp, with surprisingly good traffic until Greater Noida, after which I basically had partial monopoly over the Yamuna Expressway.

Stopped a few kilometres before Jewar for photos and to add a sweater under my jacket as it was getting quite chilly. The next stop I made was only at a U Turn at Mathura toll gate.

Encountered fog at a few patches while returning. The incidents of vehicles piling up on the E-Way immediately came to mind. Was more guarded with visor up.

Was an uneventful ride. Thoroughly enjoyed the company of me & my motorcycle. Also, this was after ages that I tanked up on Speed 97 so I had fun doing quickshifts and RPM hoverings. The machine remains as mature, composed and butter smooth as it was on the first day I rode it. Touchwood!

Total distance ridden : 280 kms

1. We ride when the moon sets.

2. We ride when the sun rises.

Hi Barcalad,

Its nice seeing your enthusiasm for rides, be it solo or otherwise. I am more of a solo-rider but don't mind riding with like-minded riding mates. I like riding anytime: night...morning...day...evening, esp. after a stressive day at office. Would love to ride with you and have some gupshup over a lazy sunday ride. Lemme know if you are interested

PS: I ride a Thunderbird 350. Riding style: not exactly sedate

Always a pleasure to meet someone who rides his motorcycle for passion and not for compulsion.
This thread is updated whenever we plan weekend morning rides or coffee meets at night. The planning and coordination is done on a WhatsApp group, though.

We have a R15 to a CBR650 in our group. Machines don't matter for us, the attitude and passion does! Most welcome to join in any time.
