Royal Enfield plans to launch a new product every year from 2016

Royal Enfield's last new product, the Continental GT, was launched in November 2013. Now the company has revealed that it plans to introduce a new model every year starting from 2016 in the next 3-5 years.

Royal Enfield has also disclosed that it plans to remain in the 250cc-750cc range. The company plans to bring an all-new product in three years. This bike is likely to be the Himalayan, which has been spotted testing on numerous occasions.

For the development of these products and other activities, Royal Enfield is investing Rs. 500 crores. A large chunk of this investment is in a new R&D centre in Mahabalipuram, in Chennai. The company is also working on expanding its expansion capacity. While the company was able to roll out 20,000 units at the beginning of last year, it has been able to produce 30,000 units at the start of this year. It plans to increase this number to 50,000 units by the start of next year. The company claims that it is cutting down the waiting period for its vehicles from 9 months to 5 months.

Himalayan is coming in 3 years only?
I guess RE wants this bike to be a total niggle free one then .

So if according to their roll out plan from 2016 ,the model for 2016 should have been spied atleast by now. I wonder if it is actually the Himalayan or maybe the bikes in spy snaps has another name.

Re: Royal Enfield plans to launch a new product every year from 2016

I had gone for my RE dealer's showroom refurbishing and there he told me that the Himalayan was coming in September-October this year. I feel the investments in redoing the showrooms, the apparel, etc all pointed towards RE becoming more aggressive in the market and moving towards a lifestyle brand.

That's good news!
I hope to see more engine choices from them catering to different budgets.

From what I heard the launch was sometime during this year only. And, being a bulleteer myself with my fair share of RE taste / after taste, I would be highly surprised if any of their bikes is niggle free. Typically they dump their beta versions to market to test, v2.0 onwards get better.

Hope they start making better and reliable bikes

True.
But since this is an all new model in every sense, RE may want to change things related to quality and finish from this model too.
But, 3 years is something which even I do not think is right. They have been spotted testing since months now and should be out by the year end.

Probably the later models would be launched with the new engine as the base with different iterations of it.

Re: Royal Enfield plans to launch a new product every year from 2016

Will RE India really, finally, actually succeed in putting an indigenously developed multi-cylinder product in the showrooms any time soon ?
I mean one, that any mere mortal can walk in and buy off the shelf - instead of sneak spy-shots of one-off prototypes spotted by eagle-eyed fans?

Re: Royal Enfield plans to launch a new product every year from 2016

I am all happy for this as long as they don't treat the different paint job as different models.

Case in example:
On their website, they have mentioned these four as separate motorcycle models
http://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/...c-desert-storm
http://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/...c-battle-green
http://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/classic-chrome
http://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/classic-500
