Re: Mahindra to buy Peugeot's Scooter business

A couple of scooters that were brought down by Mahindra last week. If and when launched, they look to have all the qualities of shaking the scooter arena.

Re: Mahindra considering Peugeot scooters for India - imports 6 models

Metropolis if introduced would be a benchmark launch as it has stunning looks with a powerful engine. It may not be for the free-play biking community, yet with overall look and plush product feel, it will find takers.

Mahindra can test the waters by importing it for sale through its two wheeler channels, say incur a loss but sell it at a price which is possible if it is produced in India and see if the market picks up.

One of my friends in France has a similar scooter and he is very happy with the stability and performance of machine, except that the front suspension assembly requires overhaul after about 7000-8000 miles (about 13000 km) which should not be a major issue if it is cost effective.

Cheers

Re: Mahindra considering Peugeot scooters for India - imports 6 models

IMHO, Mahindra should just stay away from this segment. Mahindra, when it took over Kinetic, could have utilized the Kinetic-SYM partnership sensibly and could have made some good progress in the scooter segment.

However, Mahindra ignored the SYM badge (which is pretty well known scooter badge world over) completely and wandered completely off track with models receiving very little visibility in the market. With their new model 'Gusto', Mahindra just killed the SYM badge completely.

I do not see anything different happening with the Peugeot brand also.

Mahindra has reportedly started conducting 'customer clinics' for its range of Peugeot scooters. Here is an image of Speedfighter and Satelis shared on 'The Car and Bike Show' FB page.

May be its just me - but the designs are way too quirky for my tastes. The scooter market in general is very conservative (Half of them think scooter = activa). I wonder if these sort of designs will make any impact on the market!

Re: Mahindra considering Peugeot scooters for India - imports 6 models

Last night the C&B show aired an interview with someone from Mahindra, they were talking about the new Peugeot scooters & they mentioned no definite plans for them right now until they gauge the market reaction. The Mojo is their focus for the immediate future as it's their halo bike though volumes will be low.

Would add to one more failed partnership venture for Mahindra (Ford, Renault, Kinetic etc..). Why are they wasting time on such distractions?

They have this new electric scooter in U.S, why dont they bring something similar to that to India? They could get with some new kind of scooters instead of the same where its already difficult to compete.

Though I like these scooters especially the one which has those comfy seats I think if Mahindra comes with an Automatic Motorcycle like Honda NC700x or something like that which is unique and which will make the market sit up and take notice, only then will people be interested in them.

Re: Mahindra considering Peugeot scooters for India - imports 6 models

Mahindra is reported to be planning to position Peugeot scooters against Vespa in India, like in the European markets. For India, Piaggio has cut the prices of Vespa scooters to less than half of what they are in Europe and Mahindra will have to do the same in order to attract buyers.
