Honda 2-Wheelers to add 1 more production line at Narsapura

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has announced that it will expand the annual production capacity of its Narsapura facility.

Honda will invest Rs. 585 crore to build a new production line within the existing plant site. The new production line will add 600,000 units and increase the total annual production capacity the plant to 2.4 million units before the end of 2016.

The Narsapura plant, which is located in the state of Karnataka, is Honda's third two-wheeler plant in India. It started operations in June 2013 and has an annual production capacity of 1.8 million units.

Honda's fourth facility is coming up in Vithalapur, in the state of Gujarat. It is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2016. Once this facility commences production and the expansion of the Narsapura plant is complete, Honda’s overall annual production capacity will grow to 6.4 million units.

Honda intends to create 39% additional capacity within 3.5 years. It is also planning to increase the number of associates in the plant by approximately 1,900.

Saw another thread on Honda expanding car production capacity and this one for two wheeler expansion - they seem really bullish on the Indian market in both categories.
In all, they have announced around INR 1000 crores of investment in a day.
