1929 Brough Superior, the most expensive bike ever sold at an auction

A 1929 Brough Superior 986cc SS100 Alpine Grand Sports has become the world's most expensive bike ever sold at a public auction. The bike recently went under the hammer in London, and was sold for a staggering GBP 315,000 (Approx Rs. 3.03 crore). The record was previously held by another Brough Superior, i.e. the Brough Superior SS80 model, which was auctioned for GBP 291,200 in 2012.

Brough Superiors were known for their exclusivity, and only 3,048 units of 19 models were made in 21 years.

re: 1929 Brough Superior, the most expensive bike ever sold at an auction

SS80 has been one of my personal favorites when it comes to vintage bikes, primarily because of the beautifully sculpted tank

SS100 was about taking the game to next level not only on speed front and breaking records but also offering customized motorcycle.
The Rolls Royce of motorcycle indeed( as deemed by some automotive magazines back than). There is an interesting story/rumour about Rolls Royce sending some people to first reprimand Brough but after being smitten by the quality, they decided to approve of this tagline. May be just a rumour.

If i am not wrong this was also famed as the first superbike.

some details can make for an interesting read in the link below:

The gentleman in the picture is Mr. Thomas Edward Lawrence (T.E. Lawrence) known by all as Lawrence of Arabia, on his beloved George V, which he crashed and was subsequently killed.
