Its funny how frustrated they get dealing with customers who don't buy anything and ask 1 million questions. Anyways Gautham has dealt with me and he knows I am a paying customer, probably he might be busy.

When i change any part, i keep the replaced as backup
Same here, but I am selling(atleast trying to) some old stuff off, as there is too much of clutter at home from 3 restoration.

Double check the pumping is equal on both outlets at the carb end (count the number of drops every 10 sec during idle and at around 2k rpm to set).
I am planning to use the pump itself. I will try to get the "little thingies" this weekend. Its idling at 1800 RPM now.

All the Spare parts dealers dealing in RD have to go through millions of questions and no one buying.
Everyone seems eager and after pricing they shy away. Rd is a vanity affair now only mavericks follow it.
People in Major cities have many dealers but in far flung areas, a restoration is something you can ask me. I am paying more for shipping than for spare
Anyways, getting back to the little thingies , they are not available in loose, comes bundled with Carbs of RX too.
Pramod, if you get them, promise me you will buy me a set too.
the best way to fix them is to secure them with araldite beautifully, since its transparent and it will make it air tight.
I am on aroung 2k rpm , i think i am running lean so the bike dies on the touch of the Idle screw, need to check.
Will try to change the Speedo cable tonight, need to check the locking mechanism down the wheel side.

Did you mean, the RD OE tacho needle jumps over time? Or else was it about the Pulsar tacho?

He meant that in RD350,when the engine is revved, the needles goes up with huge vibration and the needle goes up and down so u really down know the exact readings.
Hence the issue of looking for alternatives such as pulsar etc but RD tacho is manual cable driven unlike others which are electronic.

The OE tacho needle does the salsa. The Pulsar one is quite stable but i have noticed that the it drops revs quite slowly. Probably bajaj quality. But hey, whatever gets the work done!

Anyway now that discussion has turned to tachos, can someone help me source a WORKING Chronometric Tach or speedo. (Am fascinated by the mechanism) It will probably be from some old British bike or sports car.

Though the discussion is about tachometers what you are talking about is way off topic

Fixed the leaky carbs. Connected the oil pump and is now supplying oil to both the carbs. It's running fine. The bend pipes are not installed properly, the bike does sound like an yezdi.

Stuffed some steel wool into the flutes of the rd and the rx, the sound is little better now. Enjoying it now(though it's still loud)

Couldn't get the little carb thingies. Looks like they are not available anywhere at the moment. Used a same dimention copper tube to fix the issue.

Hi Pramod.
The bike has come up neat.
I had missed this thread and as I saw it today I read the complete thread.
RD's have always been close to my heart and I always tend to read any article on it.
While reading ur story about the bike rescue part it was interesting and as soon the pics started to download I had a lump in my throat. HYU3907. This was the first RD I owned and was bought from my own money. Yes, I owned this bike from 2002-2005, the bike was silver and had fat pipes.
It was a fun bike and I have many memories of it.
The name yusha does ring some bells but I loaded this bike on the train to Pune in March 2005 and surprised to see it after 10 years.

I even started a thread on fb rd group to locate lost bikes but this never came up there.

Glues to this thread.

Wow that awesome, the plot thickens , this story is now officially ready to be a Bollywood story. so did you buy this bike from the original owner? The RC has an NOC issued to Delhi. My friend wanted me to reregister the bike to our local RTO and I was very lazy, I was waiting for the build to be over first, guess that came as a blessing in disguise. I have a million questions for you, you should probably post old images to this thread to show it's past glorious days, I will PM my number to you, we should catchup

Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed-imageuploadedbyteambhp1427040534.537699.jpg

Some pics of the sparkplugs, they look slightly rich, which is great considering the run in.

^^Right bank

Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed-imageuploadedbyteambhp1427040720.238092.jpg

^^ left bank, looks ok to me. Now let's see who can tell how the timing is doing, looking at the plug. Also I wanted to see if anyone can tell me if the right bank is rich or lean at higher revs(I have only revved till 4k)

Correct answers would be rewarded, I have not thought how, but for sure I will bestow upon some kind of reward, let the knowledge flow begin.

re: Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed

Did you use a fresh set of plugs before this test?
The right plug looks rich, left plug looks lean. Please get your jetting and fuel flow checked apart from timing.
You left cylinder will suffer from overheating if you continue to run like this.

The left cylinder is not lean, its misfiring. I actually know the culprit. The carbon deposits are due to extra oil. The fuel flow is actually fine, I did plug chops till 4-5k RPM, The image is of idling, the misfire disappears once it goes above 4k Mark. These are "Run in plugs", nothing special about them they are just regular 2T NGK plugs, I have a set of NGK BP8HS. These will be used once the Engine completes the 2K run in.

Post run in I will get a new set of UNI form pod filters and up jet the bike.

People I am looking for a Rajdoot XLT rear mudguard(NOS), Any leads would be highly appreciated. It costs around 1000 for the Mudguards at Siyal, Let me know if anyone knows of a shop where NOS mudguard(rear) is available for a reasonable cost 1000-1200 RS is fine with me.

Thanks,

Pramod

People who have working RDs are magicians when it comes sourcing parts. Was apealing to them. (And that includes you)

You have all my attention, keep talking

Seriously what is not available online, everything is available in india, the only challenge is nobody's inventory is catalogued, if it was; imagine how buying and selling stuff will become a breeze. To some extent OLX/ quickr are catalouging inventory

Let me keep my eyes and ears open, it's only because you called me a magician

re: Got gifted a Yamaha RD350. EDIT: Restoration completed

Last night something funky happened, I went to the grocery store in the RD and bought a jar of Jam, I tied it to the grab handle and I didn't realize it was rubbing against the chain. Yes, you guessed it right. I had a jam disaster yesterday, the chain is coated with Jam. I cleaned the sprocket and the chain with glass cleaner spray and wiped it with baniyan waste cloth, looks clean now but I am not sure how the inner sprocket might look like, might have to open that today

The bike is running fine except a small leakage at the head from the previous stud sheering fiasco, need to get it fixed ASAP, don't want to remove the engine from the bike.
