Today was a hectic day, soldered most of the wiring, fixed the reverse carb slides and as I guessed it didn't do anything. I am waiting for my support to turn in tomorrow morning, hopefully the bike gets fixed for good, else it will be attended only when I am back next weekend. Fingers are crossed. Also need to work on the indicator blinker using some diodes, I never thought his bike would turn out to be such an electrical nightmare.

Fixed the indicator blinkers, everything now works, waiting for my help to arrive, once he is here will start the bike. Hoping to ride her today if everything goes well.

I am in Bangalore since Sunday. Went to Gee Bee auto spares at Commercial St.

The guy, Venkatesh is a nice person to deal with, he is not a guy who is after your money, got float jets, pilot and main jets for less than 200 rs.

The same float jets are sold for 500 per pair plus shipping on facebook, What a bunch of cheats. I am planning to visit Siyal by Friday and will update the thread once I do so.

Went to siyal automobiles yesterday. I was surprised to see an all RD only shop in Bangalore. This guy had everything in stock(well almost). This is a specialist so don't expect the prices to be low, last blow was the soring prices online that he compares most of his stuff with.

The entire rebuild kit if from Siyal and the individual jets are from GEE BEE







Got a allied CDI Kit, he had a Ravi Nagesh kit at 13.5k, which was way over budget for me, the allied kit is not a 135 cdi shoehorned to work with a 350, its made for the 350. Comes with its own 90/100 kit, I am not sure how it will perform but it would be surly better that the lousy shogun setup which is not even idling.



Last is the rubber stuff and stickers I procured from Siyal, the mud flap was expensive at 100 each however, its cheaper than the stuff we get in Kerala. I was looking for a centre stand however it was not available. so have to wait or live with the one I have which is shorter by about 1 inches on the right side. I have told myself, No more shopping in Bangalore

did I tell you I am filling for bankruptcy

I know what you mean, the only reason I went against it is no after sales support, I might not get a replacement igniter if it goes bad. That was another reason for me not picking up.

Glad to know the trip worked out, so here is what i would do. Fix the new ignition system on and see if she runs fine. Don't forget to time her right. Then decide if you want to do the carb job, if its running well i would say keep the repair kit for later.

I double checked the kit which is being sold as a Ravi Nagesh, its a fake, you have done the right decision in not buying it

Its interesting to see this thread coming up with time as the build progresses, I would have loved it to be build for performance which this beast deserves. What good it would be to run it in limp mode without a suitable ignition system as it wont move as an RD should move. I understand the budget constraint part but somehow the bike wont be a true RD I feel in performance, if its about looks then good.

That's what I would have done, but the carb is not working fine now, that's why I bought the kit, and a separate jets set. Is the repair kit so bad?

Thanks for unscrewing the pooch, I was worried and was feeling bad that I didn't pick that up, I was thinking of paying him the money as advance and block it, good that I didn't do that. The allied Kit is doing rounds all around India, looks like some new guy has started creating CDI kits for RDs, also comes with its own 90/100 Kit

Invincible7, it would not run in the limp mode, even a shogun CDI would have fired both the cylinders properly but I decided to get it running atleast better than the shogun setup. Performance has many meanings for many. I am sure that having a performance tuned bike and using it daily is something you would agree, is an impossible thing to achieve(saw your thread). Small niggles will pop up and they will keep you running around.

RD is an expensive bike to maintain and the owner is perceived to be a "cash cow", every mechanic prays to get a cash cow, and if I am ready to spend sky is the limit. Ron would have taken my entire build, but I wanted it to happen at home like other builds, my aim is a 0%(well almost) maintenance bike.

I am not in college anymore and having a mad bike is out of question, this would be used for occasional office commute and short/Medium rides, which wife shares with me. So reliability and low cost of running is a prime need, You have no idea what all funky opinions I get about any bike I build I do, from friends, friends of friends, family and online folks. I know people might think, you have bought some CDI, Points should have been a better option, but I live in a place where 2 out of 3 so called RD experts don't even own a timing light, now everybody might think, why cannot you buy a Timing light? After all its just a couple of dollars. Well then there is different qualities available online, make how many functions it can perform etc ...etc..
So now I am trying to buy something, to fix something, which could have been eliminated in the first place. Each component could have been through this route.

Ron, himself says he used to install hero puch CDI to RDs during his early days, what about those bikes? they ran right and they also ran right, right(too many rights)? Its only when we know something better is available we call present stuff all crap

No offences, but I don't want any performance upgrades now, I am trying to run her right. Everybody says it should run like an RD should, how many of them actually know how an RD should or could run? Is it all about linear and progressive power delivery till the top or a reliable setup which can become mad on demand or an all out track monster which silently rusts in a corner and we resurrect it every 5-10 years when we have that drink of nostalgia?

It was never about the money, I have spent 16k just for the paint when my RX was painted for 2k, I bought a CDI when the bike fired well with the setup it came with. It was and always been priorities and my aim is to resurrect it faster and before it turns into a money pit. That's all !

Buddy maybe I touched down a wrong cord with you, I understand everyone has their own set of ideas to performance and bikes, mine aren't anyways very fancy. I choose reliability as number 1 priority and thanks for going through my RX page, its one reliable machine to say the least and I use it now and then either for fun spins around the house or for some work. The ignition is what brings in one of the major changes to the engine character I will say.
Anyways performance and reliability can go together I feel provided one draws a calculated approach to what one wants from his/her machine, not every performance motor will run into issues every time you take it out.

You have put in a lot of effort and pain into building this motor, so do consider a performance ignition when time allows and see for yourself what you were missing from the motor - that's all I can say to you.

No! Coz ignition is easier to set with lesser parameters. Carb is a precision, specialist job and you need to be very careful while at it.

I've got the autoescorts kit on my RD (LT), the same link nanju has shared.
Very reliable and trouble-free. I had enough trouble with points which would go off every few days and spoil the fun. Ron's kit was out of my budget.

Will wait for your feedback of the "Allied kit". Haven't heard of it.
